Does anyone else have a problem with twitching eyelids? I've had this for about a month and a half now (I started the scd about a month ago). It just started suddenly and although it's not a 24 hours a day non-stop occurrence, it's still irritating. It started in my right eye but now it's happening in my left eye, too. Is twitching related to bowel problems? I feel like this might be OT. Is there a forum related to symptoms?

Thanks..

Hi Laurie,

I've experienced twitching eyelids. I thought originally for me it was from the

Remicade. It started shortly after I was on it. It lasted for a few weeks (not

continually, but on and off for those few weeks) and then finally it went away.

I made sure I got enough rest, because I know that can cause eye twitching. I'm

not sure if you're on any meds or not, but it may be due to those.

It has come back once or twice, but not for long. I think bringing your stress

levels down and getting rest really helps.

I would also be curious to know if it is related to bowel problems.

Take care,

Amber

Hi Laurie,I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice, just my experience :-)When my eyelids twitch I've always been able to cure it by taking fluids. For me, twitching and spasms are my first sign of dehydration. Someone once explained to me that when my blood volume gets too low, nutrients can't make their way to the muscles to nourish them. I have no idea if that's true, but it sounded good. :-)In any case, if you feel like experimenting, you could try making up a batch of the SCD electrolyte drink and see if that helps you. (1 quart warm water, 2 TBS honey, 1/4 teaspoon each sea salt and baking soda.)As an aside, I've often heard runners complain of twitching and cramping muscles relieved by magnesium (a mineral.)Best, Nina in MA

I have that problem. With me it means that I'm dehydrated. Sometimes I get it

a little more frequently when I'm tired but usually it's simply dehydration (I'm

very bad about getting enough water in my diet). Increasing my potassium also

helps with it (along with foot cramps and such)

I also had the twitching problem around the time I was diagnosed with IBD, ER

stay, blood loss, prednisone and the whole works. It went away after some time,

as I got better. The other responses seem to make sense since muscle movement

involves movement of ions in and out of the cells, so trying electrolytes may

help.

Some of the other issues I had were pain in the back of my neck, burning

sensation in eyes, and all of them went away as I got better.

Hi all!I agree with the dehydration statement but it is good to also know that Calcium deficiency can be a major cause of muscle and nerve issues. Foremost to bone health, calcium is actually used to regulate muscle and nerve contractions. Not enough calcium, potassium, and water will cause an improper balance in all the cell fluid in your body!I also had the twitching problem around the time I was diagnosed with IBD, ER stay, blood loss, prednisone and the whole works. Thanks for everyone's replies. I had some electrolyte drink this morning and then had some of those fudge-like brownies from the recipe site. It makes sense because I noticed that I had been drinking less water, especially since I started on this diet. Since I started on it, I didn't feel like I needed as much water as before. I think I just need to find what works with what I need now. Another thing I changed when I started the diet is that I quit exercising as much as I have been cooking more. I plan to cook this week and then freeze what I cook so I can free up some time to exercise.

Take care.

I plan to cook this week and then freeze what I cook so I can free up some time to exercise. Exercise is really important on SCD because it is the only way to increase yourendorphins naturally - without taking LDN - and that helps to control yourdisease as endorphins regulate 95% of the hormones in your immunesystem. Thanks Mara. It helps to be informed about these things.

I just had this problem since morning. While taking steps, the foot cramps

suddenly -- as if the muscles are being stretched unwillingly end-to-end. If you

know what I mean. I used to have similar problems a few years ago on and off

before including when I had a flare.

Does anybody know if its to do with (i) dehydration; (ii) electrolyte imbalance;

or (iii) any vitamin deficiency? I have been feeling a lot thirsty since

starting SCD a month ago. I plan to do the SCD electrolyte...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I drank some of the electrolyte drink yesterday and just fixed some more minutes ago. My eyelids aren't twitching as much now, but I'm off of work this week, too, so I don't know if it's because of less stress, more sleep, electrolyte drink or a combo. I also just realized another symptom I get - shortness of breath. I've been getting that off and on for years though. It seems most noticeable when I have more bowel problems. I do get the sensitive eyes. However, I have a lot of sinus drainage right now, too. So, I think that's why. As far as the leg cramps, I usually don't get that, but I did wake up a couple of mornings ago with a sore left leg - which, to me, means I might have had a leg cramp in my sleep and forgotten about it - I

don't get them as severely as I used to, or I'd definitely remember!
