I recently bought a home so I applied for disability insurance through state Farm. The denied me due to my weight (300 pounds 5foot 9.5) Can they do that? Should I apply through another company?

State Farm is pretty strict on everything, auto ins, life etc. I have diability thru AFLAC but I think you can only get it thru groups ...like your employer using them. We just got it and I had no trouble. So keep looking...

Ann;

That's frustrating to be sure! I'm sorry you're having problems

getting disability insurance. When is your surgery?

Their decision however can become an interesting precedent for

those fighting other insurance companies who have denied

approving surgery. The fact that Sate Farm turned you down for

disability infers that they think that those who are morbidly obese

are likely to become disabled.

Given this fact, Health Insurance companies would save money

by approving the surgery, rather than denying it and then

becoming financially responsible for the subsequent disabled

person.

I hope that you will have your surgery soon so that you won't be

denied again. Disability Insurance is very important, but

under-appreciated. If you look on a good 'search engine' on the

internet, you can find many different disability insurance

companies. If you find one, you will probably pay extra for your

weight. Make sure you have it in writing that when your weight is

more proportionate to your height, that your premiums will be

reduced accordingly.

Good luck and keep us posted as to what you find.

Ann:

Did Cigna give you a reason for a denial?
