Guest guest
have been on scd for little over 2 months and last 2 weeks were a real improvement and feeling great overall! My food variety has increased somewhat and still going slowly with introducing new foods. I'm still cautiously optimisitc and nervous about a flare up or set back which I know is normal but so disheartening!!! My main question is...if I were to start introducing raw fruits and veggies slowly and one at a time, what are the best ones to start with? I would think melons since they are mostly water...what else? which veggies? (i would assume all peeled..) If someone could get back to me on this i'd really appreciate it. Thanks, Becky

When my Crohn's was really active cantelope always made me sick, and I didn't digest watermelon well either (plus watermelon has a very high sugar content; that could be why I couldn't tolerate it then). Everybody's different, but bananas were the first fresh fruit I ate on the diet; then applesauce (which isn't raw, obviously) and after that fresh apple/banana, yogurt and an egg (and a shot of orange juice) in a blender (with some ice cubes), which made, and still makes a great lunch (but now I add vanilla and nutmage, and sometimes leftover coffee from breakfast). I could also eat blueberries quite quickly, though you may have to watch out about the seeds in berries like strawberries. It didn't have any trouble adding either of those to my " shake " concoction, however. Now, among others, I eat tons of bananas, apples and clementines/tangerines. Of the latter I eat probably three or four a day. Re:veggies, I didn't eat any raw for months, then tried carrots. Now I can eat carrots and celery and sweet peppers (green, red and yellow), but there aren't any other raw veggies I've tried, or like very much. I'm not into raw broccoli or cauliflower, though with a good yogurt-based dip and some herbs I'd probably eat them. But that's also fairly advanced. n -- Now available. Guest guest
i think that sounds crazy early - you may hit a 3 month flare and not know what's going on - I'm almost 2 years in and am barely eating too much past stage 2-but that just sounds too early for raw in my opinion eileen > > have been on scd for little over 2 months and last 2 weeks were a real improvement and feeling great overall! At least, not necessarily. I began eating raw stuff before that and it worked fine. I've found that if you know your own body you'll have something of a sense of what might work for you at a given point -- and what might not. Sometimes you're wrong, but you have to experiment, in my view, or you won't progress much. n Becky wrote: >> have been on scd for little over 2 months and last 2 weeks were a real >> improvement and feeling great overall! I'm 5.5 months in and nearly from the start was eating raw fruits (most) and raw salad veggies (alas most other veggies that you cook I cannot manage). This is fine. I do limit the quantity of citrus and stone fruits. I think the reason this works for me is that over the 27 years where I needed SCD but before I found it, this is what I managed to find in the fruit-veggie category that works for me. My body is used to it. If I were coming from SAD I imagine it would be different.
Guest guest
Becky- Very glad to hear that you're doing well! My experience: Its been 5 I started SCD. I have been eating everything well-cooked. The only time I tried raw was last week with little bit avocado and cilantro but I had a drop of B next day and I stopped. Not to scare you, but we're all different. Good luck, keep us updated. -Andy.
