Guest guest
Lets see, my husband had a heart attack on Saturday, was flown by helicopter to Queen of the Valley Hospital. He had a cath done, and is doing much better. We believe he'll come home tomorrow. Also surgery for 3 stints (?) in about a month. By the way he quit smoking on Saturday!!!! My husband insisted on me still having my sleep study done, he know how important it is for my health. My sleep study shows "172 desaturation events". How does that relate to the "Respiratory disturbance index" that is one of the comorbid conditions? Any one with an answer on that one? Thank you! Guest guest
Oh gosh . I'm so sorry to hear about your husband! You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. As for the sleep apnea thing, I can't help you there. My comorbid conditions were elevated heart rate (which they thought was high blood pressure) and lower back issues. I had a sleep study done but it didn't show anything significant. I'm sure someone else will chime in here that has/had sleep apnea and be able to give you some good feedback. Take care! Guest guest
Hi , First off sorry to hear about your husband. God willing he'll be fine. Now, if I understood correctly you have sleep apnea. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea about a yr and a half ago. This was one of the comorbid factors for approval. I sleep with a bipap machine and have to continue to use it even now when I lay down on my back, and every night when I sleep. I cant tell you the difference.. Its amazing how even the lights seem a little brighter when you begin to sleep with a little help. Im now post op as of 2 weeks ago, and have lost 48lbs as of Friday. I continue to use it, and wouldn't have it any other way. If sleep apnea is what you have, please dont worry. The sooner you begin to treat it the better you'll feel. I wish you the best, and you and your husband will be in my prayers.. Take care. When I had my sleep study done, I slept for 6 hrs and 44 minutes and had 99 oxygen desaturation events and snored for 177.3 minutes and a total of 103 snoring episodes. It also says Apnea/Hypopnea index time was 395 minutes. Of course, I really don't know what all of these numbers mean, but I was promptly given a C-PAP machine and was told sleep apnea was one of my co-morbidities, although I had some others, as well! I remember thinking and feeling like I hadn't even slept very long that night, and so I was convinced that I didn't have sleep apnea! Hope that gives you some perspective with regard to your results! Good luck, Shonda. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > --------------------------------- >
Guest guest
If that number of " desaturation events " is over the course of eight hours, that is more than twenty per hour! My husband, who has sleep apnea and a CPAP, has never heard the term, but we both suspect that means that those are periods when your body's oxygen saturation drops. In other words, you aren't getting enough oxygen. If this is indeed the case, YOU NEED A MACHINE! I am sorry to hear about your husband's heart attack, and glad to hear he's doing so well! Obviously he cares a great deal about you, to insist you have the sleep study done. That's a real HUGSband! Speaking as one who was widowed by sleep apnea in 1995, please do take this seriously! And yes, I believe it can be used as a comorbidity toward getting the surgery, especially if submitted by a supportive PCP. Guest guest
WOW I really empathize with what you are going thru. My hubby had his first heartattack at age 36 and one year later had his second. Your sleep study should be done, it will help with your qualifying for surgery. Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your husband . The Queen is a good haspital and they'll take good care of him there. Do you live somewhere in the Napa vicinity, or were you just visiting here when he had his attack? I live in Napa, so I'm just curious if you're local. Ron Re: Sleep Study done....????? Guest guest
, Sleep Apnea comes in different forms, I wasn't very high on the desaturation, but I had obstructive events 44.4 every hour and I thought I was fine. My husband insisted I talk to the doctor, because he said I stopped breathing a lot. Sleep Apnea in any form is a comorbid condition and you should get your machine. It's amazing after you get use to it and use it how much better you feel. I am really sorry to hear about your husband, and know you have a lot of stress. My ex husband whom I stayed close to, even though I remarried and have been for 24 years, anyways the ex died sept.2 and services was the 12th, then my sister died on the 22nd, my son had a motorcycle accident on the 25th and broke his clavicle (shoulder bone) really shattered it, my sister service was the 27th, my husband went into depression the 30th, his step mother's cancer came back and was put in the hospital Oct. 3rd, our 24th anniversary was Oct 10th (which couldn't be celebrated do to the depression) and all life's normal stuff on top off all this and all the doctor's and I just did my 6 month post op and I'm at goal and no matter what life brings I know it's hard. Hang in there! I'm not letter the stresses mess me up. Take care. Again I am so sorry for your husband and what you are going though.
