Guest guest
In " Life Without Bread " and " Good Calories Bad Calories " there is discussion about losing retained fluids when switching to a low carb diet from a high carb one. If you were eating a lot of breads, cookies, pasta etc, then it is likely you have reduced your carbs. This might also explain why some people initially lose a lot of weight when starting SCD. If you are drinking plenty of fluids you should be OK. PJ > > > I have been on SCD ~6 weeks and over the last few weeks I've been peeing a lot, especially in the mornings. My GI wnats me to take probiotics to offset any ypset in the flora. He suggested florstor or align from walgreens. I am really worried and depressed. I have just started getting bettere and I don't know what to do now. The doc said antibiotic is important to stop the kidneys from infection. Please help if anybody knows what to do. Guest guest
Or could it be too much good bacteria? I have been consuming 1 liter milk for yogutr (dripped) a day. I don't know how I have this infection. > > > I have been on SCD ~6 weeks and over the last few weeks I've been peeing a lot, especially in the mornings. In a day, I pee some 8-9 times. Guest guest
If your BMs have been improving, particularly in the morning, it could be water drawing out from the intestine? Just a guess. I had a similar experience recently when I went on steroids for my sinus/ear/head infection thingy. A really noticeable difference from my general experience. Woke me up in the middle of every night - course, I was drowsing through the night on Benadryl instead of sleeping deeply the way I normally do. Guest guest
Andy, The frequent urination may be from the infection. As far as probiotics go, don't take the drugstore ones, because they may contain illegal probiotics like bifidus. You can get legal probiotics from GI prohealth and others ( see recommendations on pecanbread.com) also the SCD yogurt contains tons of probiotics- more than the capsules. You should eat it frequently throughout the day to replenish the ones the cipro kills off. (different times than when you take the Cipro ) PJ PJ > >> > >> > >> I have been on SCD ~6 weeks and over the last few weeks I've been peeing a lot, especially in the mornings. Guest guest
The doc did just a test on the urine sample and said there's infection.. Also, I have been having mild, intermittent pain near my prostate area, which I didn't think was related. I hope it is not too complicated. Can someone recommend a probiotic I can get from Whole Foods or an online source? If I am starting my antibiotic today, I need something before I get the online stuff. Thanks! > >> > >> > >> I have been on SCD ~6 weeks and over the last few weeks I've been peeing a lot, especially in the mornings. In a day, I pee some 8-9 times. Guest guest
Hi Andy, Hope this reaches you in time. Is there any chance your doctor can prescribe something other than cipro? Cipro just has more chance of long term side effects. I took it over 2 years ago and it was awful. Has taken me a long time to recover. If you have already started it, ask your doctor if you can switch to something else. If not, then just make sure you stick to the diet and take probiotics. Guest guest
Thanks, PJ. I will order Scdophilus from GI Prohealth, I think. That seems to be first choice? I was just reading about prostatitis -- apparently nobody understands the disease. I don't know how I got it?? What a wretched life! I am sorry, very depressed. > > >> > > >> > > >> I have been on SCD ~6 weeks and over the last few weeks I've been peeing a lot, especially in the mornings. In a day, I pee some 8-9 times. Guest guest
Kat- Thanks. I suppose I could call him tomorrow to see if he can change it. Other options seem to be the tetracycline or erythromycin. He is my primary care and doesn't know as much about the intestines, and hardly anything about SCD. Life sucks. -Andy. > > Hi Andy, > Hope this reaches you in time. Is there any chance your doctor can prescribe something other than cipro? Cipro just has more chance of long term side effects. Guest guest
Dear PJ- Do the probiotics recommended on the pecanbread site need doc authorization? I just called Klaire labs and they said that they need doctors authorization... -Andy > > Andy, > The frequent urination may be from the infection. Guest guest
GI prohealth does not. You can just order them. Make sure you order the SCD legal ones- they have others. The one I have is called Scdophilus. PJ > > > > Andy, > > The frequent urination may be from the infection. Guest guest
No, this is understandable. Once you feel better you won't be as prone to infection. Does cranberry help with this? I use the legal cranberry supplements and the cranberry juice concentrate from digestive wellness. I know this helps in women, but it may help in men too. Feel better, PJ > > > >> > > > >> > > > >> I have been on SCD ~6 weeks and over the last few weeks I've been peeing a lot, especially in the mornings. In a day, I pee some 8-9 times. Guest guest
I would personally go with the tetracycline, definitely ask your doctor tomorrow if it's possible to switch. If you are stuck with Cipro, don't do any strenuous activity or weight-bearing exercise for up to 6 weeks after. There is a risk of tendonitis or tendon rupture. I've had wrist and forearm problems since taking Cipro, it is getting better but taking a long time. If you notice anything like headaches, joint/muscle aches, depression, nausea or dizziness definitely call your doc right away to see if you can stop taking the medicine. Lol yes life sucks sometimes, when I finished Cipro, less than a week later I was on another antibiotic, then a week after that was done, another one. It was awful and doctors were just useless. I didn't know about SCD at the time, I think I would have recovered faster if I did. Just stick to the diet, eat plenty of good fats and meats, and rest up. You will get better! Guest guest
Also, the SCD yogurt has tons of probiotics in it. Just eat plenty of it throughout the day until your probiotics ship. Other kinds from the store usually contain illegal strains or fillers. PJ > > > > > > Andy, > > > The frequent urination may be from the infection. Guest guest
Kat- That helps. But did your IBD symptoms aggravate during antibiotic treatment? That's my biggest concern. SCD should help. Thanks, Andy > > > > > > Kat- > > > > Thanks. > > > > I suppose I could call him tomorrow to see if he can change it. Other options seem to be the tetracycline or erythromycin. Guest guest
Andy, GI prohealth just sends them to me. I've never had to have a doctor's authorization, and never used Klair labs. Remember, there is a ton of probiotics in the SCD yogurt. Eat is frequently during the day. PJ > > > > Andy, > > The frequent urination may be from the infection. Guest guest
It's a yeast. I tried it pre SCD. The one I tried was from a company called Biocodex. I've also seen the same brand behind the counter (ask the phamacist) at either Publix or Kroger - I forgot which. It didn't have any other ingredients - only the S. Boulardii. It constipated me. It did nothing else for me. To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, December 24, 2009 9:00:23 AMSubject: Re: Frequent urination Have you, or anyone else, tried S.. Guest guest
Andy You'll need to take antibiotics for the infection; ciprofloxacin is the usual one doctors start with, particularly for urinary system infections. Be alert to any allergic reactions; if you get hives or respiratory distress contact your doctor's office and give another antibiotic a try. Don't get the usual probiotics doctors recommend and that are available in local stores. They usually contain the bifidus strains, which Elaine felt were not recommended for those of us with digestive disorders. The SCD-legal probiotics are just L. Acidophilus or S. Boulardii. There are a few online/mail-order places that sell these. There is a page listing sources with links in the group Files, and some are listed on www.pecanbread.com under supplements. Our 24-hour fermented yogurt will also supply probiotics. You want to time the dose of probiotics around when you take your antibiotic. Give yourself at least a two hour window before and after taking the antibiotic before you take the probiotic. For example, if you take your antibiotic at 7:30 am, then take the probiotic at 5:30 am, or wait until 9:30 to 10:30 am , or perhaps 11:30 am (unless you're taking another dose of acidophilus at noon) before taking the acidophilus. I'd take the acidophilus at least twice a day during the course of your antibiotics, then at least once a day for a few weeks afterwards. You can also expect your digestion to be tempermental while you're on antibiotics. Expect symptom flares. Stick to the easiest foods your digestion can cope with. Kim M. However, s. boulardii has also been used for the treatment of traveler's diarrhea, so if one is inclined toward constipation, it might be better to stay with the probiotics in SCD yogurt. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

Capsule consists of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose. I wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole! Malto dextrin IS illegal, to start with. Plus I have some personal experience here. When I first went on SCD, and dropped rice, I felt a lot better in a few days. My doctor had suggested maybe I could jump start things with Repleniss, which is used to counteract antibiotic use. Well, I got some. It has malto-dextrin. I decided to try it anyway, thinking maybe the high pro-biotic amounts would counteract that. I took it for two days and felt just as bad as I had before I dropped the rice. For me, malto dextrin is really really bad.

Guest guest
I just want to clarify: the suggestion is to take 3 cups of SCD yogurt and 1 Lyo-san pill for every cycle of antibiotic dose. Is it 3 CUPS? That seems a lot -- it is almost 1 quart of milk after dripping etc?? > > Andy > > You'll need to take antibiotics for the infection; ciprofloxacin is the usual one doctors start with, particularly for urinary system infections.
