Darla,

Sorry I am late in replying.

-Kay now aged 11 years has had cyclic vomiting since age 4 years. They last for 4 - 5 days. She always has alot of mucus with her vomiting episodes which are triggered by viruses, becoming dehydrated, being over-tired, becoming stressed, eating tomatoes or any foods containing tomato based products, extremes of weather, for example too hot or too cold.

Before an episode of vomiting begins she will complain of a headache (when younger it was a stomach pain). She will become pale, her pupils will dilate, she will become very fatigued and unable to walk and will urinate often.

We live in New-Zealand but were sent to see a specialist in Australia who suspected cyclic vomiting as my older daughter Amy, had the same thing as a child. Amy now has migraines.

Both -Kay and Amy are now in a study in America by Dr Rick Boles, to look for 'Mitochondrial DNA in subjects with Cyclic Vomiting'.

Hugs,

.

Luckily, Devin's Genetics doctor recognized it right away because his daughter had it. Hers turned into migraines as she got older though. We're going to the GI tomorrow morning to discuss any testing that may need to be done.

Darla,

We did not do a pH probe or a scope. We were dealing with Gastro and Neuro at the time and they all agreed was not strong enough to do a scope. was a pretty clear cut CVS kid. We did do serum immunocap testing for allergies. They did other blood work which clearly showed Mito issues, however at the time we were told it was normal. Sorry I don't have more helpful info.

To those who responded to my question (or others), how were your kids diagnosed with cyclic vomiting? Did you go through the PH probe and scope?
