Kim,

Is this United Healthcare a part of Aetnas plan? I will be trying to go to

Dr. Radkin (sp?) in the bay area myself. is this who your Dr. is? My firend

said he called her and tokd her his next metting in the area will be July

18th. I think I will be changing over to Aetna PPO. Do you think that they

will do a DS/BPD surgery like this and if they will how ling after joining

the insurance company will they be willing to pay out for this kind of

operation. It is really expensive and I wonder if they would be willing to do

it after the 6 month waiting period.

Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Lee H.

Lee,

I found a couple of cases in which Aetna patients had surgery with Dr.

Rabkin. I would suggest calling your insurance company to find out if Dr.

Rabkin of San Francisco is within your plan. With a PPO, I would think

you will have very little problem, even if he is not. United Healthcare and

Aetna are not interlinked as far as I know. With my insurance, (UHC) I did

not have a waiting period at all. In fact, I just got insurance this past

January, had my consult at the beginning of March, and had surgery in April.

I had no problems at all. I had surgery with Dr. Anthone in LA (USC). He

is a wonderful surgeon and would recommend him highly. Dr. Rabkin is a great

surgeon as well. A friend of mine had surgery with him in Oct '99, and has

lost about 220 lbs and had no complications at all. Are you looking to do

Lap, or open? Where do you live? I would be happy to help any way I can. Feel

free to ask any questions, everything is still pretty fresh in my mind!

Kim
