Amelia, Well, my adventures with s. boulardii were another, " You really don't want to do that.... " I'm using the Nutricology s. boulardii because it was the best I could find locally. 3 billion per capsule. Typically, because I am overweight, I end up taking double or triple the probiotics and/or vitamins that someone at a normal weight would take. So when I decided to start the s. boulardii, I'd been following discussions in various places about people starting with half a capsule. However, many of the discussions I saw were over on Pecan Bread, and were intended for children. The Nutricology directions say three capsules is a serving. OK, fine. I took three capsules, a full dose, figuring that since I usually end up going double, I was doing " half " a dose. Took this at night, about two hours after dinner, mainly because we got it when we were out shopping that afternoon, and I'd forgotten it before dinner. Next morning, I took another three capsules, half an hour before breakfast. By noon, I felt like I'd been hit with an ugly stick. Flu symptoms up the wazoo. DIE OFF with a VENGEANCE! What the...? I thought. Me? Die off? I've been SCD for five years! Surely I got rid of most of the bad bacteria...? But I had had signs of yeast & etc., in spite of that. (No doctors to do yeast tests and all the rest that some of you go with.) I ended up skipping the dose that evening, then resumed with ONE capsule twice a day for a week, then two capsules twice a day for a week -- any higher and I have issues with it. Two capsules half an hour before breakfast. Two capsules half an hour before dinner or two hours after dinner. I do not take it at the same time I take my bromelain or any other digestive enzymes, because they'll break it down -- I make sure to separate it from them the same way I would separate other probiotics from an antibiotic. I had several weeks of mild die off, and then things stabilized. Trophies about 90% of the time (some variation as to trophy or not is perfectly normal, even for non-gut issue people) and there were some foods (like spaghetti squash) which had always been too advanced for me that I could suddenly eat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saccharomyces_boulardii has a good article on it. S. boulardii was approved by Elaine. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
