Guest guest
Howdy Folks, I realize I don't post much, but... Having been diagnosed with Neuro-Sarcoidosis in Dec 1995 (biopsy confirmed) I was treated with Prednisone for 4 yrs. The Active sarcoid had caused some scar tissue to form\acumulate on the retina of both my eyes. In August 1996 I had a retinal vitrectomy performed on my left eye...improved my eyesight considerably. Over the past 2 years, my left eye has developed a what has been desribed to me as a 'considerable cataract " . I am to have surgery in about 2 months (not scheduled yet) to correct the cataract (silicone implant). I have read quite a bit about long term prednisone causing cataracts, but also that replacment vitreous used in Vitrectomy surgeries can also cause cataract (the replacement vitreous apparently conains slight amounts of Oxygen, which also can cause cataract). From what I ahve read about, and been told by the surgeon, I am not terribly worried about my upcoming surgery. I am, however curious if anyone has heard of any concerns relating to the silicon implants themselves. In an off-topic note... ...we here in southern Ontario are having some very cold weather...apparently a cold Arctic air mass sitting atop of us. Toronto is keeping up an extended cold weather alert. Even for us Canadjuns here in the great white north, it is 'darn' cold. i hope everyone is enjoying manageable weather, and keeping warm. __________________________________________________
