Guest guest
Today was remicade day, and I'm worn out tonight. I'm sure I'll be sleeping the day away for the next couple-- but I wanted to share this with you. As I was sitting in the oncology center this morning, I had the chance to read a 2yr old copy of Yoga Journal. There was a woman that is a journalist- photographer. Her name is Alison . She was on assignment, and was onboard a bus-- when a logging truck came sliding around a corner-- in the middle of nowhere. The truck hit directly at her seat-- and she ended up seriously broken up. She was taken via a pickup truck over miles of dirt road, with broken ribs, crushed lungs, her spleen ripped in half, her arm shattered into many pieces. The impact had sent her organs, heart, etc--- up into her neck and shoulder. The natives in the pickup took her to a shack-- (clinic) and there they only thing they could do was to pour rubbing alcohol on her arm. After hours in this location, she was sure she was going to die. She had no meds for pain, and used the pain as a signal that she was still alive. Hours later, a couple of British tourists showed up, and transported her to a "hospital." There, somehow they saved her life. It was months before she was able to be transported back to San Francisco, and it is still a challenge in recovery. Remember I said this was a 2005 issue. She is a Yoga instructor also, and so had learned so much travelling and getting to see the world, and learn and study with Buddhists-- including the Dali Lama. she was already a living study in the beauty of meditation and the power of prayer. What got me after reading this woman's journey, is that she has developed a way of looking at her injury. "I COULD GET ANGRY AT MY LIMITATIONS, AND STAY ANGRY-- (AND IT WAS IN MY RECOVERY WITH EVERYONE SAYING YOU'LL NEVER WALK NORMALLY AGAIN..., ) THAT I DECIDED TO SEE THE BEAUTY AND THE AMAZING HEALING POWER THAT MY BODY POSSESSED. " For me, that said so much-- we may be fighting and struggling and wanting to give up--- but look at the fact that you are in there, fighting for your life. You are fighting-- for the medical care and the emotional care that you deserve. Don't ever give up. Guest guest
Tracie, thanks for sharing this with all of us and you are right! You have to fight and NEVER give up! It was hard for me to accept that I will have limitations on things I can do and not do, but it is a way of life. At least I am here -- alive -- and thank God, I am not still on the ventilator sleeping my life away. they thought I had brain damage also, but there again, thank God, I don't!!! Hang in there, Tracie, we WILL make it. Hugs, Darlene NS Co-Owner/Moderator
