I still get attacks of spastic colon every now and then but overall my entire digestive system has settled and feels much more comfortable with the ds. I also had my gallbladder out and the huge stones were bothering me, so that could have factored into my abdominal aches and pains. I experienced constipation with my IBS, although I know that some experience diahhrea. And, I had this damn spastic colon that would really hurt. Fatty foods usually instigated a spastic colon episode, but not dairy. Now, four months post-op, I get them on occasion (at night mainly). I have no problems with dairy and generally don't have a high fat diet (I didn't as a pre-op, either). I think that, because the malapsorption causes the intestines to 'work less' (they still carry chyme and enyzmes but don't absorb until the common channel), the blood flow isn't as caught up in the digestive system and things move smoother. At least, that was the case with my body! It has really loved this new arrangement since it happened. However, I think you have to look at what kind of IBS symptoms you have as a pre-op -- they may be different from mine. I never really had any problems with diahhrea (had loose bowels in the first weeks post-op but not uncontrollably so). Now, I go about 1-2 in the a.m upon waking, sometimes in the early a.m. or evening and rarely during the day. It has been pretty regular since I had the surgery (just an added pooh time in the early am immediately post=op LOL). all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 four months post-op and still feelin' fab!
