Guest guest
Hello, group. I don't have the time to participate on this list any longer, but I thought that I would buzz in to share with pre-ops the remarkable difference that this surgery has made in my life over the last 10 months. One year ago, I was coming down the home stretch, completing my testing, awaiting insurance approval, etc. I weighed 425 with a BMI of 73. I had mild sleep apnea, constant joint pain, shortness of breath, moderately high blood pressure, and could barely walk more than a block without stopping. On June 9 of this year, two days after my 10 month anniversary, I flew to Disney World with my family. I now weigh about 270 lbs (a loss of 155lbs.) Even though I am losing from the top down and am still broad in the hips, I fit in the airplane seat, did not require a seat belt extension, and had no trouble with the tray table. I park hopped every day with the family for 9 days, doing up to 13 and 14 hours a day. I rode every ride I wanted to ride and saw every show I wanted to see and fit without a problem in every one. The only ride that might have been tight were the roller coasters that you " hang " from and I didn't try that because I didn't want to. I amazed myself every day. I could not believe that my body, my stamina, my energy levels, my sheer capacity for exercise has changed so much in such a relatively short time. I knew that just a short year ago, I would have been one of those people who required an electric cart or a wheelchair to get around and I would never have been able to enjoy the rides themselves. I simply would not have fit. I still have 120 lbs to lose. And I do get frustrated sometimes with plateaus. And there are days when my mornings in the bathroom or my picky digestive system irritate me. But those are relatively rare things and, when I think about my life - about having a life, enjoying my life - there is no question that every aspect of this process has been worth it. I cannot tell you how happy I am and I cannot begin to imagine what additional freedoms the next 10 months will bring!
