Guest guest
Hello all. One thing I have been meaning to ask about for some time is caffeine. I've read several posts about people wondering whether or not to drink soda. What I am wondering about is coffee. Are there any coffee drinkers out there? AS crazy as it sounds, I would devastated if I had to give up my two cups of coffee in the morning. Heck, I'd give up ONE, but to give it up altogether would be a real challenge. I understand that it would be WAY TOO filling, especially right after surgery. But what about several months post-op? I appreciate your input!! Guest guest
I wasn't told I had to give up coffee. But I find I don't really want it much any more. I used to drink 4 or 5 cups a day but I doubt if I average one every other day now. I didn't get any in the hospital but haven't been told anything about it since. Pam - it's hard to know just what you will love and hate after surgery! I was a total coffee addict before my surgery - way more than just 2 cups! After 4 months post-op, I still can't drink it. Like a lot of other things that i used to love pre-op, it just doesn't taste good anymore to me. Part of me misses it - the ritual of coffee with the morning paper, etc. But oddly enough, I don't miss it enough to keep trying it, although I sometimes drink caffiene free, or herb tea. I seem to be content without it, and kind of like being caffiene-free! Who knows, though? With the way our tastes change after surgery, i may find it irresistable tomorrow!! Guest guest
Me TOO!! I was thinking about that today…Coffee is my only vice…and even though I can limit myself to one or two cups a day…I’ll miss it in a devastating way if I can’t have it at all! I look forward to reading replies to this. Pre-Consult -----Original Message----- From: pamjams2@... I have never given up my morning coffee (except for about the first 6 weeks when the very thought of it made me want to hurl!) and I think that amount of caffeine in a day is just fine. I am not into soda and never have been, but I just cannot begin in the morning without my cup of java. You may not want it initially but if you are like me the taste for it will return eventually and you'll be fine. Best of luck to you both! Guest guest
Hi, I was told no caffeine for my high blood pressure and stopped all caffeine over a year ago. I did the same thing with cigarettes when I got pregnant with my eighteen year old. It was tough and I will never know how I did it. I now drink decaf and it was tough to get used to but better. I use to have my heart race and I now know it was from the caffeine. I do drink tea, decaf only. I will rink a coke once in awhile, only watered down types (like mcds). I think it was for the best, if only now I could the extra pounds off, I need to lose 146 pounds. I will try xenical while Im getting my surgery papers and choices in order. Good luck with everything!
Guest guest
I've had caffeine since before I was released from the hospital. My surgeon had no caffeine restrictions on me (I drink Diet Pepsi) and none on any of his other patients that I know. Guest guest
Hi and all: I know that each doctor is different but Dr. Anthone never limited caffeine as a matter of fact I was served coffee, tea and coke 4 days after surgery and coffee on the 3rd day. Dr. A believes that you should return to eating normal food as soon as possible and starts solid foods in the hospital and encourages us to try everything and everything we want other than sugars, but I did not actually eat anything sweet for the first 18 months. I drink ice tea daily and a lot of it and coffee whenever I want it although it was also 18 months before I actually liked the taste of tea again and as much as U was not a soda drinker I did find one of the things I could drink early on was Coke but that was around 9 months post-op before that I mostly sipped at water. Guest guest
I'm about 3.5 months post op, and just now starting back with a morning coffee. Coffee was really the only thing I didn't tolerate well after surgery, and I'm glad to have it back. Cola just doesn't have the same appeal in the morning.
