Guest guest
As my surgery date (7/26/01) gets closer, I find myself more reflective on the reasons why I am going through with this. My health, my mental sanity, my longing to be more responsive to my friends and family…these are all a few of my reasons. To say I won't miss the expense of two airplane seats, the cost of big men's' clothing, the trepidation you feel when you go somewhere new in case they do not have a chair you fit into…. these things I will NOT miss… To the people who feel they have the right to humiliate me, embarrass me or call me names..I won't miss you either. To the friends and family I seem aloof to at times…..I will enjoy getting back with you. I will be a better friend to you, because I will have become a better person to myself first. To new friends, adventures and life, I am ready to welcome you with open arms…… Pre-op Dr. Rabkin, San Francisco 7/26/01 Open BPD/DS Initial Consult: 513# BMI:
Guest guest
: There are some disadvantages to having this surgery which you should know about. You will be forced to shop in stores which have thousands of shirts, pants and suits available which will fit you. You won't any longer be able to just buy one of the three items which fit - just because it fits. You'll be faced with lots of choices in where to sit in restaurants. You won't be able to avoid the booths just because you can't get into them. When you've lost 50% of your weight you will have to put up with friends and relatives telling you that you look just fine right now and if you lose another 70 pounds you'll be WAY too thin. I don't have an answer for that one yet. Any suggestions? You'll have to put up with spending $15 for the co-pay at the pharmacy rather than $125. You will have to put your car seat at the same distance from the wheel as other people use. This will keep you from feeling " special. " You will lose 10% of your friends because they feel threatened by the new you. But you will gain 20% because of your newfound confidence. So if you dislike change this may not be a good choice for you. And as Gayle says, you will get the eye from good looking women. Old ones, unfortunately. This surgery doesn't make you young. Damn! Sorry to be the bearer of such sad tidings but you should be prepared. Regards. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for sharing your thoughts about your upcoming surgery. I find myself reflecting on the same things. I just want it to be OVER with already!! LOL!! By the way, your surgery date is my birthday, so I'll be thinking of you. By then, I'll be "switched," and hopefully the only "bummer" of the day will be accepting the fact that I've turned 39!!!! Here's to serene days ahead. Guest guest
, I can totally relate! I reflected on many of the same things. This surgery will change your life so much. I have only lost 60 lbs so far, and I can't believe how different I feel. Good luck with your journey. I will keep you in my prayers.
