Guest guest
That's right, do NOT start losing weight until your first appointment with the Richmond BARIATRICS department. Your first appointment, which will be after your approval, is when your starting weight will be recorded, and will provide the starting point for your required pre-op weight loss. I know, it's stupid and quite a disincentive! azurewinds@... wrote: > I know it's good to practice what we are going to be doing but it > almost seems that if I start the 1200 calorie now it's almost like a > wasted effort because it doesn't really count. -- Eleanor Oster eleanor@... Guest guest
Don't lose any weight before orientation when they weigh you, that will be your weight and they will tell you how much to lose. I was at Richmond and my was 10%, I believe everyone at Richmond is 10%. You will have time to get use to changing while your losing the 10%. Good luck, and we're all here for you. Something about that way she said it and then qualified it even more by adding more maybes made me wonder. Is that really true? I know it's good to practice what we are going to be doing but it almost seems that if I start the 1200 calorie now it's almost like a wasted effort because it doesn't really count. Guest guest
Hi, Donna and Eleanor, That's what I thought. I'm not going to go crazy and binge on stuff but I'm not going to the 1200 calories until I have my goal either. Why waste that new diet weight swoosh if I don't have to? I have been making changes to get ready. I am on the way to eliminating caffeine and carbonated drinks. I was drinking a 2 liter of diet coke a day and now I am down to one 12 oz can. I will have that eliminated in two weeks. I'm going slow because for me the caffeine withdrawal headaches are really bad. Thanks for your help, Pam Re: Is this true? Guest guest
I went through KP Richmond. I started end of October 2004 and had my surgery Feb 8th, 2005. Richmond does NOT count any prior weight loss. The day of orientation, they will weigh you. You should then figure out what 10% of that weight is. That weight will be recorded in your file and is the official start weight. When you go to see our surgeon (initial surgeon consult) they will tell you if you have not lost the 10% how much more you need to lose. I started at 249.5 and had to lose 24. In six weeks, I lost it so by the time I saw my surgeon I was given a date and I did not have to come back and see the surgeon a second time. So if you know for sure you are going through Richmond DON'T lose any weight and they are strict with the 10%. No 10%, no surgery. I wish you well on your journey. Pam Marsh 103 pounds lost but not forgotten 17 more pounds to goal (130). --- azurewinds@... wrote: > I had my first meeting at Kaiser today, the combo > with the nutritionist and psychologist and they said > that we won't be given the official amount we had to > lose until we are approved and go to Richmond but > that we should start now because the docs there > might take into account how much we had lost since > the last time we were weighed at our doctor. > Something about that way she said it and then > qualified it even more by adding more maybes made me > wonder. > Is that really true? > I know it's good to practice what we are going to be > doing but it almost seems that if I start the 1200 > calorie now it's almost like a wasted effort because > it doesn't really count. > Sheltie Pam in CA > > __________________________________________________
