I wasn't told I had to give up coffee. But I find I don't really

want it much any more. I used to drink 4 or 5 cups a day but I doubt

if I average one every other day now. I didn't get any in the

hospital but haven't been told anything about it since.

I was told to try to avoid caffine as much as possible (since it interferes

with calcium absorption). I haven't had as much coffee as I did pre-op, but

I do have a cup or two in the a.m. some days (decaf most of the time). Since

I take my calcium pills at night, I figure that the decaf (or occasional

regular) coffee won't interfere with calcium absorption.

I mainly stick with decaf, but I've heard this still contains some traces of

caffine. I try to drink diet drinks without caffine -- diet sprite, 7-up,

diet coke/caffine free but this isn't always possible if I'm in a restaurant

or didn't bring it with me. Most places only offer the plain 'diet coke' or

'diet pepsi'.

I have just really begun to enjoy drinking coffee again (albeit decaf). I

drink it with a LOT of milk (really au lait). I had a mug of it yesterday

(maybe 2 big cupfuls) and was so surprised - I thought I'd NEVER be able to

have that much in one sitting again! LOL

all the best,

Everybody is talking about having to have their morning coffee . . . I

really miss my carbonated diet drinks. I was chugging down probably a six

pack a day, Pepsi One was my favorite. Doc told me six months and I miss

them more than anything. I'm sick of Crystal Lite (so many have such strong

artificial tastes I had to water them down), getting tired of lemon water,

trying every thing. I'd really love to hear how long different people waited

before they had carbonation. I keep sneaking sips of my son's but then I get

scared - don't want to have any accidents over a canned soda! Love some

responses. Thanks.

Hello Joann,

I love soda too. I was drinking regular ginger ale, day 2 after my surgery in

the hospital. My Dad got it for me & the nurses were pouring it for me to take

my meds! Go figure, if I couldn't have it, the nurses never said anything. I'm

3mos post-op & I never stopped drinking reg soda. I don't drink as much as

before, but I still have some. The carbonation & the burbing make me feel

better, esp after a meal.
