Guest guest
I just received the results from my Genova stool test. In general, everything on the test was in the normal range, supporting my GI's diagnosis that my UC is mild and that SCD has contributed to my colon's health. There wasn't any information that points to why I continue to have rectal bleeding. My integrative doc did a rectal exam using an anoscope (fun, fun) and confirmed that he saw an area of inflammation and bleeding that was not hemorrhoids or a fissure, but most likely caused by the UC. One of the markers on the Genova test is that my levels of bifidobacterium were low. The commentary provided by the lab says, " Bifidobacteria is below optimal levels. Bifidobacteria being a predominate anaerobe should be recovered at levels of 4+ " - mine was 2+. I know Elaine was against bifidus but this information confuses me. If it's beneficial and I have low levels, is it worth trying a batch of yogrut with bifidus and see if it helps? Guest guest
, PJ – No, I didn’t receive a response to my original post, but am well aware of Elaine’s stance on bifidus, and that’s why I had posed the question to this group. Since my test results showed such low levels and it is considered friendly bacteria, I thought it would be worth a try. It’s possible I may be re-doing the test since they claimed they didn’t see any occult blood or mucus in my samples, and I’m 100% positive there was blood and mucus on my stool (it’s kinda hard to miss). In any event, I have made a batch with bifidus in it, and other than it being tarter than my normal yogurt using Fage and SCDophilus capsules, it doesn’t seem like it’s changed anything with my bleeding problem. So I plan to go back to the approved method after this batch is gone.
