Guest guest
I've been pretty sick for a couple days now. Friday I had to see a doc at the Napa clinic. Man, what a nightmare that was. Anyway, she ordered all kinds of lab test, a chest x-ray, urinalisys... the works. Because I was so weak from this illness, standing there in front of the "vampire" was very difficult, so I sat in the chair. (Now, some of you may be saying, "What's the big deal? That's why they have chairs there." But, the chairs they have there are just too narrow for my excessive derrier.) The important thing here is that when I sat down to rest my weary bones, I actually fit well enough to sit there until she was done drawing my blood. Now, for me, this is a major milestone. Every time I've gone to have blood drawn, I've had to stand up. So, blah blah blah... I had to go back today to have more labs and see the doc again. When I was finally done there, I decided to weigh myself. Now, I already know that the Napa scale weighs a little heavy, so I weighed 471 on that scale. What that really means is that I have broken yet another decimal point in the grand scheme. I go back to Richmond for another "official" weigh-in on the 17th (I think). It's so good to read all the posts in this group. And Robynn, I'm glad you had a great time with in Hawaii. I hope it turns out to be everything you want. Oh yeah, and the bottom line of my illness.... I am showing good signs of improvement and I should back to full strength within another day or two. Guest guest
Ron, It's amazing when you really get surgery and lose a lot of weight, and go to the show and you can wear a jacket and have lots of room still in the seat. Yes you'll want a jacket once you lose so much, boy you stay cold. I'd rather be cold and have room, than hot and no room. Congradulations. Guest guest
Laurie, Your not a freak, every one is different throughout this whole journey. It also depends how much weight you've lost and how much more you have to lose, and then again you might never be a cold person, plus sometimes it depends on medicines you take. So you're not a freak, keep up the good work. DonnaLLLORY@... wrote: I must be a freak. I'm not cold...much. :)Laurie __________________________________ Yahoo! Guest guest
Yikes...Hope you feel better Ron! As for the milestone, I totally get it. I was taking(still am in fact) at the local college and used to have to sit in the handicapped chairs because I didnt fit into the regular chair...the ones where the little desk thingy folds down. One day I got to a Saturday class way early and decided since no one was there yet I would try to fit in one. And I did...I wooohoooed so loud that the instructor who was just coming in the door jumped LOL!! So I explained why it was so significant and he celebrated with me. Guest guest
Since surgery, she's lost 36 pounds and a total of 96 pounds since orientation Since she started at 301, she's nearly to the onederfuls AND the century club. As to how she's doing... overall, she's doing great. She does suffer from many of the same things I read in here daily... feeling cold, some nausia on occasion, but her biggest problem at present is constipation. Of course, she's unable to eat some of her favorite foods (mostly eggs and chicken). She's really hoping this will pass. Hell, she can't even be in the kitchen if I cook an egg and she'll lose her meal if she eats chicken. I feel really bad for her. AND, I'm not looking forward to some of it. We'll see how it goes, I guess. Guest guest
Hi Marita. Down 211 lbs? Does that mean you're down TO 211, or have actually lost that much already? In either case, RAH RAH RAH! But you'll get twice as many if the latter is true. In any event, I'll be having Dr. Baggs in Richmond doing my surgery. And trust me... when I get the date, EVERYONE will know all about it. Heck, I may hire the Goodyear Blimp to announce it to the whole bay area! P.S. I used to live in Pacifica a few years ago. When I had to move back to Napa (where I am now), I was devistated. I really loved that city. Nice to meet you Marita. Happy Halloween everyone! Guest guest
Yahoo ! Yahoo! Now, just so everyone knows, although I am feeling overall a lot better, I do have a active infection in my right leg and I just know my doctor is going to strongly urge me to spend a little time in the big house to suck on some IV meds. I'll know for sure in the morning, but I'm pretty sure that will be the case. So, if you don't hear anything from me in the next few days, I'll be being held prisoner in the Vallejo Kaiser. Else, I'll be right here tomorrow posting to let you all know I dodged another bullet. Tootles for now... Guest guest
Ron, Active infection are bad, my husband had one last year at first the doctors made him go get IV's everyday as a outpatient. Then it got so bad it went from his calf all the way almost to the private in the three days. Then he was hospitalized for 4 days and was only let go home due to anxiety, he still did outpatient IV's for 3 more days, then medicine for about 10 more days. It was really hard getting this to go away. You take care of yourself. DonnaBBQ Man wrote: Yahoo ! Yahoo! Guest guest
Oh I am aware of the dangers. I probably did a stupid thing on Friday by refusing hospitaliztion. Guest guest
Those infections can be nasty. I was in the hospital a couple of weeks ago from one that started with a bug bite and ended with a 105 fever that was really hard to get under control. I hope you can do outpatient meds. So I explained why it was so significant and he celebrated with me.Huggles
Guest guest
Good luck, Ron. Let us know...BBQ Man wrote: Yahoo ! Guest guest
Ron, the chicken and egg thing passes with time...and once she's advanced to the stage where she can consume more fiber, the constipation gets better, too. It just takes time for your guts to heal...that is just the way it is. So, don't be nervous...it all works out in the end.... RobynnBBQ Man wrote: Since surgery, she's lost 36 pounds and a total of 96 pounds since orientation Since she started at 301, she's nearly to the onederfuls AND the century club. Ron Re: Another milestone Ron, It's amazing when you really get surgery and lose a lot of weight, and go to the show and you can wear a jacket and have lots of room still in the seat. Yes you'll want a jacket once you lose so much, boy you stay cold. I'd rather be cold and have room, than hot and no room. Congradulations. Guest guest
Yes, Ron, be very careful. I had to take my brother in to Valley Medical last month for an infected foot. . . he doesn't have insurance, and he HATES going to the hospital, so it was a huge deal to get him to go in and get it treated. By the time I got him in he couldn't walk on it. Kept complaining the whole time, but I told him that if he tried to leave he was going to have to walk home because I would NOT take him home till a Dr. took a look at it. In the four hours we waited, it went from a local inflammation to a red streak that almost reached his groin. A week later he was thanking me, but that night he was a !@#(*#!$&. Glad you're being reasonable (relatively!) Cathy C. > > > > I've been pretty sick for a couple days now. Friday I had to see > a doc at the Napa clinic. Man, what a nightmare that was. Guest guest
Ron, I hope all goes well for you with your leg. I hope your sister is doing good. As far as constipation, after my surgery and some months of diarrhea, I was so constipated I cried many nights. I keep in touch with the surgeon and my PCP, I talked to people at support group and got many different answers, so I also came home looked on the internet for constipation. Here's what works for me because I don't get enough fiber, I have trouble in that area. I'm a protein girl, and not just because I try to salads and fruits just don't work yet for me. Here's how constipation can usually be treated effectively at home. This is off the WebMDHealth First -Try gentle exercise. Take a short walk each day. Gradually increase your walking time until you are walking for at least 20 minutes. -Make sure you drink enough fluids. Most adults should try to drink between 8 and 10 glasses of water, noncaffeinated beverages, or fruit juices. Avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeine, which can increase dehydration. If you have heart failure or kidney failure, talk to your health professional about what amount of fluid is right for you. -Include fruits, vegetables, and fiber in you diet each day. -Schedule time each day for a bowel movement (after breakfast, for example). Establishing a daily routine may help. Take your time. Don't be in a hurry. -If you are still constipated: -Add some processed or synthetic fiber-such as Benefiber for us. -Try a stool softener, such as Colace, if your stools are very hard. If constipation persists, add a saline laxative, such as Milk of Magnesia. You should not take these types of laxatives if you are on a sodium-restricted diet or have kidney problems or high blood pressure. -You may occasionally need to try a stimulant laxative, such as Ex Lax or any over the counter stimulant laxative. Use these preparations (stimulant laxative) sparingly. Regular use may interfere with your body's ability to absorb vitamin D and calcium, which will weaken your bones. -Overuse of stimulant laxatives decreases the tone and sensation in the large intestine, causing dependence on laxatives. Do not use laxatives for longer than 2 weeks without consulting your doctor. I talked to Dr. Baggs, Dr. Park and my PCP and I was told since my constipation was so bad to use Milk of Magnesia and as soon as it worked start using Benefiber every day. I know people who use stool softeners instead, I was told not too. After the first Milk of Magnesia and Benefiber for 3 days I was still constipated, then I had to do Milk of Magnesia again and that finished getting all the back up out, and from then on I do Benefiber every day and do not have a problem as long as I drink all my water, exercise, take the Benefiber and make time to have a bowel movement without rushing. This works for me who is just a protein person. Benefiber by itself did not fix it for me, but after working through the Milk of Magnesia times now the Benefiber keeps me regular everyday. Some people use stool softeners, some stimulate laxatives, but after I read this I didn't want to create more problems for myself. I believe every one has to find what works for them, and when your sister is 12 weeks maybe she will be able to eat fruit and salad and all will be fine, we're all different, so take all this message and find what works for your situation. Good luck to you and your sister. DonnaBBQ Man wrote: Oh I am aware of the dangers. I probably did a stupid thing on Friday by refusing hospitaliztion. However, I'll likely go in tomorrow.
