This paragraph caught my eye.

**********

Hmm, I often get very distended in the actual stomach, with referred pain to the thoracic spine, right after I eat. I think I'll experiment with just honey and see how I react in that regard, that might tell me if honey would be a problem for me even higher up in the GI-tract or if I could add it back in.

Stomach bloating and referred pain to my thoracic spine, right between my shoulder blades, are two of my chronic digestive symptoms. I've been diagnosed with Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction, a malfunction of the set of muscles just below the stomach where the bile ducts empty and the chyme (food) is moved into the duodenum. This disorder affects peristalsis, among other things, so I also deal with IBS-C. I have a few other chronic symptoms as well. I have "failed" two GES studies (gastric emptying study) since the stomach is slow to empty when the Sphincter of Oddi isn't working right, which causes bloating, which makes it difficult to swallow, and also puts pressure on my common bile duct and pancreas, which triggers pain between the shoulder blades.....

Just thought I'd mention it since you might also be dealing with upper GI disorders. Not many gastroenterologists test for Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. I had to go through several doctors and lots of tests before I was diagnosed. I'm not suggesting you have this, unless you also get a few other symptoms, like right upper quadrant abdominal pain and migraines. But you might be dealing with some malfunction in your upper GI, and it might be worth seeking other specialists for additional tests or opinions.

Now that I know what I'm dealing with I have been able to adjust my SCD foods to keep my symptoms after eating minimal. I still have periodic episodes of more severe symptoms, because there are other physiological triggers at work in addition to food choices. But thanks to being on SCD, and adjusting my food choices, I can manage my symptoms. My gastroenterologist is amazed at how well I'm doing, and compared to others with the same disorder (I'm in a support group for people with this) I'm doing terrifically well. Thanks goodness.

Feel free to email me offlist if you have more questions.
