Guest guest
I just got a call from Fran, Dr. Cohens nurse. I had called regarding Gracies sleeping problems the last week or so. (She cannot stay asleep, and is waking on average every hour or so.) Even though I do think this is blood sugar related, Grace is hypoglycemic, she recommended I try giving her Melatonin. From what I read online it has nothing to do with blood sugar, but helps maintain sleep. Has anyone had any experience with this? Anything, good or bad will be beneficial. I will still try it, because I am getting desperate, but I don't want to cause any more problems than we already have. Thanks in advance for anything you can offer. Guest guest
, I've tried Melatonin in the past and it didn't really help me but I think it's pretty safe since it's something your brain naturally produces to make you sleep. If one really needs more Melatonin then he/she will notice a change from supplementing with it, if not then it won't work and you can discontinue using it. Just start with a really small dose and see how Gracie does. I believe it's a first line of defense for sleep since it's natural. Hope it does the trick. Guest guest
, We have used Melatonin with for nearly a year. We began with a dose of 1 mg and have escalated to 3mg currently. It has helped a great deal with the go to sleep part of the sleep disturbance. It has helped some with the during the night sleeping, but still gets up multiple times a night for varying amounts of time. He also struggles with extreme nights sweats and hypoglycemia. He does uncooked cornstarch nightly before bed. also struggles with continuous body/extremity jerking while asleep which does not stop with pressure or holding. We are not certain he ever really reaches a deep sleep. Overall I would say that the Melatonin has helped, however it has not ended the problems. I do know many families (non Mito/ but with autism) that it has been a life saver. Know I will think of you when I am up tonight :>) Tammyalbregra@... wrote: I just got a call from Fran, Dr. Cohens nurse. I had called regarding Gracies sleeping problems the last week or so. Guest guest
My boys have never slept throught the night and it takes hours for them to fall asleep and are VERY early risers. We got the go ahead to start melatonin after the LP. We used it yesterday for the first time and they were asleep within 30 minutes and slept fairly well throught the night----seems like a good thing to me. We gave Zack 1mg, Cole 2mg (neuro said we could go to 3). GNC has cherry flavored chewable little pills (we crushed it in yogurt and they liked it). The problems we have currently started before the melatonin, and everyone says it is very safe. Good luck, Kris > I just got a call from Fran, Dr. Cohens nurse.
