Guest guest
Ok, here's something interesting...to me anyway. And frustrating. I've been losing an average of 3 pounds per week for awhile now. I had some Devrom on hand but hadn't tried it yet. I went on a trip last week and was gone about 9 days. I walked a LOT, walked up stairs a LOT, went swimming, and ate less than I was used to eating. I guessed I must have lost at least 5 pounds because of the calorie deficit and increased activity. The only thing I did differently was that I took Devrom at each meal while on this trip and I had never done that before. It had the predicted effect of making my stools firmer and less stinky and the little bit of gas that I had was not stinky. That made me very happy. Then I came home and weighed. I hadn't lost A THING. I have a theory that the effect of Devrom firming up my stools and making me hold on to them longer decreased my malabsorption. My theory is not only because of my own experience, but because of a post I read by a woman who had the surgery last August and has taken Devrom " religiously " ever since and has not lost nearly as much weight as she should have. Or thought she should have based on her common channel length, starting bmi, etc. That's my theory. I guess it's back to stinkiness and increased trips to the bathroom. I guess I'm fine with that if that's the tradeoff while losing - once I get to maintenance I'll go back on the Devrom. What do you all think about this? Any similar experiences? Or different experiences? -Sherry (Lake Marcel, WA) BPD/DS Feb. 2, 2001 self-pay 5'5 " / 326 pounds / 33 years old Lost 9 pounds in pre-op weight loss efforts Have lost 85 pounds since surgery! Making your stools firmer and making you hold onto them longer probably just means your intestinal tract is more full than you are used to. You probably lost WEIGHT on your trip, but you are holding onto more STOOL, so the scale shows the same amount. JMHO, Tom
Guest guest
I have been taking Devrom since the first week from surgery. I still lose weight. I had a body fat analsys done at my 3 and 6 week check ups and I was shocked that the minimal ammount of exercise I have done has added 20 pounds to my lean body mass. (which was too low before)Your body can build muscle extremely fast. I would not be surprised if you have not added lean body and lost fat. Dont beat yourself up over not changing the scale. Added muscle will make it so much easier to loose the weight now. Check with your Dr. or gym and see if you can get a electronic body mass check. You also buy them at sharper image or stores like that. They are pricy. good luck to you. Keep up the good work. Machelle
