Hey PJ,

You looking for an all around " generalized " type of enzyme? Have you looked at

http://www.enzymestuff.com/basicswhichenzyme.htm

I can't know exactly about the product you posted since it has a lot of

ingredients as I question the processing of some of them

http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=NT-1489&sourceTyp\

Also, IME sometimes having a probiotic as a filler can be " iffy " .

Have you looked at Houston Enzymes at all?

Trienza is great!

http://www.houston-enzymes.com/

It's quite a bit more expensive.. There are some other good ones out there too.

Thanks Jodi- I was just curious about them since so many people have found them

to be helpful, and I'm interested in trying them.

GI prohealth sells SCD legal ones too. The trienza looks good.

I ordered Trienza. I hope it is not irritating to the GI tract. I just wanted to

see if the enzymes would help with digestion- keep undigested food out of the

colon. They seem to be helpful to so many people.

Any personal experience from the group would be helpful- thanks.

After reading pecanbread.com, which stated that the enzymes from GI prohealth

were legal and less irritating to the GI tract, I changed my order and ordered

the GI prohealth ones. I decided I would be more comfortable using the less

irritating one to start.

I take HCl and an enzyme product called Mega Poly Zyme by

Interplexus, which has the basics, protease, lipase, amylase. I think

they do help. I think Trienza looks interesting to try, too. I seem

to do better with some help in this area though I hope eventually I

won't need it.

Thought I'd mention my experience with digestive enzymes, just in case... I've

tried three different digestive enzymes since my diagnosis six years ago; my

body rejected all of them. My immune system responded quickly (hives,

respiratory distress), and that naturally upset my digestive system for days.

I was and am a bit frustrated by this intolerance, although not terribly

surprised. My immune system doesn't tolerate many supplements, especially ones

containing multiple ingredients. I had a struggle finding a multi-vitamin that

my body would tolerate once a week. I deal with malabsorption issues, so can use

the additional digestive enzymes, but my body won't accept them.

Trienza wasn't one of the ones I tried. Digest Gold was one, however, which has

had good reports from other SCD folks, so I was disappointed.

I mention my experience only to suggest you start cautiously and take a low dose

at first, until you know your body will tolerate it.

PJ,

How interesting.

What makes GIprohealth less irritating? I am very curious!

Thanks,

I read this link:

http://www.pecanbread.com/p/enzymes1.html

" There are some children who cannot tolerate enzymes during the early stages of

SCD; this might be due to the protease in the enzymes. A special enzyme was made

to overcome this problem: the new enzyme assists protein breakdown but avoids

excessive amounts of proteases that may irritate or inflame GI tissues.

View information concerning ProZymes, the new enzyme "

Then there was a warning on the Houston website for their Peptiside product that

says not to use it in the presence of severe intestinal inflammation.

I would imaging that these products are safe for most, but I did not want to

" rock the boat " Many of the Houston products are SCD legal and look like they

are excellent, but for my very first try, I went with the Gi prohealth. Other

products from Houston do not have this warning.

Thanks, I ordered some, but I may hold off as I'm still a bit wary of rocking

the boat here. I just feel sometimes that they may help, and really, we are all

trial and error here with different things- and we won't know until we try them.

Scary :)
