Have either of you tried the cough assist machine for your kids. My son has similar issue as your kids, and this was a life saver for him. My son uses the vest to loosen everything , then we use the cough assist to bring all the junk up. He now very rarely gets pneumonia, and we have been able to use oxygen a lot less during the day.

Chelsea just started using a cough assist this summer and it has made a HUGE difference for her as well! She also has very similar issues to Kirkland and , she used to not be able to cough at all, but now has quite a strong cough, she just has secretion managment issues. Somedays it is a constant battle of her coughing and me suctioning, and she never sounded clear. Since the cough assist, she is clear more often than not, but still coughs a lot. Her pulm. and I decided on this instead of the vest, because it is cheaper and will suck out what is loosened. I use it with chest pt, but she seems to do the same if I don't have time for the pt. She has been thru several med changes for asthma before this.
