Guest guest
I can't even tell you how depressed I've been the last few days. I just seemed to have lost all the momentum I've been generating since I got involved in the surgery and beginning my support group (which we had 17 people last night..pretty good for a small town and area like Bellingham WA). My dad called me at work yesterday and said they were going to help me find the money. I have never felt so relieved. I hadn't asked them for help because last August they bought a small fixer up house near theirs and I know they had to put out about 25,000 for it. I pay the mortgage/insurance/property taxes amt (650.00) and at some point will buy from them. They don't want to do an equity loan on their own home, which I can understand, but are going to see if we can get any money out of this one that way and also my grandma who is 94 has quite abit in Cds so they think if I at least pay her interest, since that is what she lives on, she will loan me about 1/2 of what I need. I truly do have a wonderful family. So....if it all pulls together, I will have my surgery in August!!!! ~~* AJ *~~ BMI 59 INSURANCE: NW Washington Medical (Regence ) DR Heap, Richland WA Denied 2nd appeal 6/20/01 going selfpay Bellingham Support for WLS WWW.lookin2bthin.homestead.com
Guest guest
AJ - I'm curious as to why you would go self pay after a 2d denial. Why not hire a lawyer and appeal again? Wouldn't that be cheaper?

Guest guest
AJ: I'm writing to apologize for questioning your self-pay decision. I was going to write privately but you know, since I made the idiotic remark in public, you deserve the mea culpa in public too. Many people have written to me off the list to explain why someone would choose to self pay, some pointing out that a person can get damned tired of battling an insurance company when one isn't feeling terribly well to begin with. I appreciate those people straightening me out (in private). I will probably never learn to think twice before speaking but I suppose there's always hope. I am happy for you having a family willing to help you. And I hope everything goes great for you.

Guest guest
Hi, eveyone, Jacqui, my wife, had the DS on June 19 with Dr. K in Delano. We opted to self-pay when faced with the CERTAINTY of a lengthy and stressful fight. And she works for an HMO! Knowing the system, I believed that an extra year with the DS was worth the price. I am just glad we could do it. The HMOs and insurance companies would rather have us all pay and then die. Sometimes there are things more important than money. We would pay as much for a new car, I would rather get a loan for surgery to be thin than a loan for a new car.
