I would not panic too much about the fish smell. My daughter has been on Carnitor for 1 1/2 years, and we have never had a problem with it. Once in a while we do notice a smell, but it is not overwhelming, or noticeable to anyone who did not know it was a possibility. I know some people do have more of a problem then we do, but there is a medication you can take to make it go away.

One more tip: If he cannot stand the smell of the liquid, it can be added to a drink. When Grace was little, and before her g tube, we used to add her Carnitor to her bottles. Now that she is 2 and does not like her g tube touched, we add it to her milk. I really don't think it alters the taste of the drink or anything, she has never complained (if it is only Carnitor). Also DR.Cohen recommended doing this, so I am pretty confident it is safe.

If he is still going to take it, maybe you can request the pill form. If he cannot swallow a pill, most pharmacies can flavor the medicine to something the child will like to take. I understand your frustration, we ended up having to put a g tube in Grace primarily due to the problems we were having getting her medications into her. (She is only 2 though)

The only problem I am having with this,is that he seems to be able to taste

it. I didn't tell him that I put it in there,,and he said that his drink tasted

funny.Also,he didn't finish the drink

It might all be beside the point,,if he keeps throwing up. I called neuro,and

of course,they haven't called back. He seems a little better tonight.
