Guest guest
I'm thinking of " Guar Gum " , which according to the package is a resin. Supposed to be good for digestive problems, H pylori. I was interested in using it for my stomach symptoms; I used it briefly in the past and it seemed to help. Guest guest
Guar Gum is a galactomannan. According to wilkepedia " Galactomannans are polysaccharides consisting of a mannose backbone with galactose side groups " I would think this is illegal. I'll let Marilyn have the final word. Guar gum is another classic example of something which might make you feel better temporarily (because it feeds the bad bacteria in the gut and makes them happy) but it will ultimately perpetuate the problem. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thanks everyone! I didn't realize that gums and resins are the same thing. So how does this work; I'd love to understand this better. Why would " feeding " pathogenic bacteria sometimes make you more symptomatic and sometimes make you feel better (initially), as in your example above? Thanks, Lilian IBS-C something in the stomach, who knows what

Why would " feeding " pathogenic bacteria sometimes make you more symptomatic and sometimes make you feel better (initially), as in your example above? Think about die-off and how lousy you feel when you remove the food the bad bacteria are accustomed to. If you feed them, they will temporarily shut up -- but then they will multiply, and cause more issues -- and you will feel lousy because they are starving. And then you feed them, and they shut up for a time.... it's the vicious cycle. It's much more complex than this, and someone else may be able to explain it better. I just know that there are so many things which are frequently recommended for gut issues which are, in fact, SCD-illegal, and which maintain, rather than break, the vicious cycle. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
