Hi , I have had trouble with both, I've been taking procrit for about a year.. after receiving 2 units of whole blood last year in Feburary.. Now, my Hct has taken another nose dive even on the procrit and I'm to get a blood transfusion tomorrow.. and I think they will increase my procrit from 40000units to 60000units. every week.. I was a LPN for 25 years and so I can give them to myself.. which I give my insulin 5 shots a day what's one more...I hope this works.. they never given me a reason except they call it chronic illness anemia... the problem I have with that diagnosises is, before I was sick, I was a firm believer in blood donation, I went to give blood one day, just not feeling up to par but still working 4-5 12 hour shifts a week.. just thought I was tired from all of that.. when they checked my hemagoblin, they said it was too low.. I told them something was wrong with their machine..they said nada.. they didn't think so.. so they sent me home with a box of rasins, with the instructions to follow up with my pcp.. that's when all the crap started hitting the fan.. and they found pulmonary sarc.. now, they've never given me the opportunity to tell this story.. as to why its not the Imuran, because when it started I wasn't on Imuran, actually I wasn't on anything.. Anyway, I feel for ya.. everytime I stand up or walk to the bathroom, I'm so out of breath and my heart races and beats hard up into my head, I hate that feeling.. Good luck!

Thanks. I have had a problem with my white cell count being low.

Funny - it was like that before i was even on any drugs, even before

i was diagnosed with sarcoid. But now they seem to want to blame it

on the methotrexate.... My haemoglobin and Red cell count have now

just taken a nose dive into the low zone. Did you have to take iron

tablets? I have another blood test next week so we will see what is

happening but i feel very tired these days......

THanks

Hi , I have always had problems with my white blood cell count. When I first became ill, it was a big issue. Then as treatment went along, it was as well.I was on Methotrexate for about a year and it seemed to be helping a bit, anyway. Then right when then the Remicade came out, I was approved for it, (my dr. told the insurance co. that I had rheumatoid arthritis, which made it go right thru).. I was so excited, I thought the Remicade was going to be the drug to help me. I had heard such great things about it. I only got to have 2 infusions. After that my white blood cell count got dangerously low, they took me off that right away and also off the Methotrexate and any kind of immune suppressants. I was really disappointed. I couldn't even take the Methotrexate which was helping me .So even today, they watch my watch my white blood cell count. Not to scare you, but you are not

alone.Debbie T.Co-Moderator wrote:

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Do you mind me asking what your white cell

count got to? Did you at any time have problems with your

haemoglobin?

Thanks

Hi , I am having big time problems with my bone marrow. The hematologist explained that I have anemia of chronic disease. I was told that when the body is being worn out by a chronic illness your body secreats a chemical which turns down production of Red Blood Cells. I have been on Procrit and they had now switched to aronest (sp)? Which is suppose to more powerfulo so far my hemoglobin has only increased from 8 to 10.3. They want me to be at leaset 12. I get the injections in their office each week, They doubled my dose two weeks ago haven't been retested yet. When I take my blood sugar the blood sample still looks quite diliuted. These injections are suppose to work. My internist said my RBC are skinny and squigly. If only I was skinny on the outside and had obese RBC but no luck. Judy in PA . What is happening to

you.
