Guest guest
Marilyn, The only things I can think of for apples are fiber (real good source) and Vitamin C or Vitamin A or something along those lines. Now for the disclaimer, this is totally off the top of my head and I am having a totally dumb brunette day today. Lori Owen - Denton, Texas CHF 4/14/01 479 lbs. SRVG 7/16/01 401 lbs. Guest guest
How much magnesium do you take? Pickle cravings are often caused by magnesium deficiency. You should be taking 400-600 mg a day of magnesium citrate; almost ALL Americans, even before any bariatric surgery, are deficient, because our highly procesed diets are almost completely deficient. Z Open RNY 09/17/01 Cravings To: ossg-pregnant I am having the worst cravings with this pregnancy. I cannot get enough pickles. I can sit down and eat a jar of dill pickles in one day. Then I am so thirsty that I can't drink enough water and my lips get all dried out during the night. Yuck!!!! Anything salty and or vinegary is number one on my list. I just wonder if it because of the surgery, or is it because maybe this baby will be a girl. Does anyone else get weird cravings? With my son all I wanted was ice-cream, and candy bars. Now all I want is pickles!!!! Guest guest
I believe that food cravings are often a sign of a deficency or need. For example, I believe I crave carbs in the pm or premenstrually because of a dip in Serotonin-levels. One craving I'm dealing with is for nut butter. While I was eating almound flour muffins I didn't crave nut butter, but since I've stopped the nut butter craving is back. What do you think I might be looking for? It shouldn't be the fat, as I consume olive and coconut oil + the occasional fish oil supplement. I also crave cheese, and trying to hold back there because it reportedly makes C worse. Thanks in advance fo any ideas! Lilian IBS-C
Guest guest
Actually, I've read that cheese has a tiny amount of opiates in it and is very addictive. I know that I had withdrawal-like symptoms when I quit eating dairy about a week ago.-- I believe that food cravings are often a sign of a deficency or need. But I'm not sure it applies to everyone. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Lilian I get cravings for three foods; hard-boiled eggs, peanut butter, and walnuts. At least these are the cravings that didn't disappear after I switched to SCD... Because of my upper GI malfunctions I have to eat very low-fat, and low-calorie (and low-fiber and bland...) After I gave some thought to why these three particular foods are things my body needs occasionally, I decided it was for the fat content and the surge of calories. And walnuts contain a particular kind of chemical that is important. Interestingly, when I start to get a migraine about 10 pm, I grab a hard-boiled egg. Sometimes that isn't enough, so I have a spoonful of peanut butter. Usually takes care of the migraine, and I feel full at the same time. Oddly enough my digestion is quiet for the rest of the night; usually I can't eat anything after 7 pm or I suffer all night.... Now that I think of that symptom, I see why, since my upper GI disorders are connected to migraines. Anyway I generally don't feel any more cravings for a week or so. Aren't our body processes entertaining???? Not sure what the exact answer is for your cravings, but it might be the fat content too. Oh, I can't touch coconut oil, nor fish oil, nor cheese. Also can't touch any tree nut butters; peanut butter is the only one my upper GI tolerates in small amounts. I do use olive oil sparingly when I'm cooking, but can't have it "straight" such as in a veggie dressing. So I know my body needs more fats occasionally. Kim M.
