Guest guest
Has anybody tried Jini Patel's program? I was researching on alternate medicines for UC and found this website -http://www.listen2yourgut.com. She also has a book - Listen to your Gut. There are products on her website. One of the product is an enema - http://www.holistichealthshoppe.com/astragalus.php?id=20. The description of this product says that it stops the bleeding in 1 – 3 applications. Please let me know if anybody has tried it and if it works? scd143 UC - 9 yrs SCD - 1 yr.. not working well for me. Lialda - 2 tabs a day Hydrocortison enema - 1 at night Currently having rectal bleeding Looking for an alternate medicine
Guest guest
I bought Listen to Your Gut when I was deciding which was the best diet to follow for me. I ultimately settled on SCD. I used Absorb Plus once. It contains maltodextrin. I noticed that many of her products are not SCD legal. Some of her philosophy overlaps with SCD, and she has some good ideas, but her products go with her plan. I have read many of the diets and plans, but it is hard to mix them up since not all plans are SCD legal. She has done well, and I hope others have too. I ultimately chose to go on SCD because I do believe it is the best of what is out there. I have not tried her enemas. Guest guest
She references SCD in her book. She says it is a good program but she got frustrated spending so much time in the kitchen that she tried to come up with another way. Her program includes illegals and a lot more supplements and products that she sells. She is in favor of probiotics and using oil of oregano and her supplements to help get rid of bad bugs. For me personally it meant using a lot of stuff I had never tried before, and I had no idea how I would react to it. She talks about emotions and listening to your body. This is a good thing that we all can do too. SCD on the other hand, offered real, natural food. There were no supplements to buy. Yes, it included a lot of time in the kitchen, but ultimately I wanted to live on real food and not have to depend on other supplements. I could spend money on supplements, or put it towards a yogurt maker and other items that would help me with SCD. Every plan takes effort, including hers. Ultimately it is a choice, but after reading a lot of diet plans, I decided that SCD made the most sense to me. I did not think any other plan was going to be as effective, IMHO. PJ, Well, you know, in 25 years, I had tried an awful lot of stuff which sorta-kinda-maybe helped, but most of them never explained WHY. BTVC was the first one which told me why my gut was doing what it was doing. I remember, when I got my book, reading it in one shot. And then I lay there on my bed, muttering, " Oh. My. Ghod. Guest guest
Marilyn, I completely agree with you. I read a whole lot of books in a short time, and even read BTVC twice- once before I read a lot, and after, and it was the only one that stood out of the bunch. I'm glad I read them because it helped confirm my choice. They are all donated to the library so others don't have to buy them all to come to a decision. I think people are going to come across a lot on the internet and wonder about all the information there. Guest guest
Actually, if you take her anti-bleeding diet and take out the SCD illegals in it--I'm talking food only here and no supplements-- it seems to work, although it's a bit restrictive. She recommends doing it for 2 weeks. It's kind of like doing the intro diet. I have the same symptoms you do and am on the fence about the hydrocortisone foam. I'm almost at the point where I'm going to call the GI if the bleeding doesn't completely go away. It's maddening because it's a tiny amount and intermittent. I'm not sure if I have a just a 'roid or proctitis. How are the hydrocortisone enemas working for you, do you get a lot of side effects? -- Has anybody tried Jini Patel's program? Mostly through difficult experience I learned a lot about what I could and couldn't eat (except for using rice as the supposed good base to keep IBS calm). When I read BTVC last summer it was definitely an Aha moment. Everything made sense, the foods I could eat were explained as well as the ones that caused trouble, etc.

I had known that it was something to do with starches, but was in denial because I loved my brown rice and my whole wheat pasta. Reading BTVC laid it all out for me. <g> I guess I should get around to donating my IBS diet books to the library. But I'm kind of glad I'm a procrastinator in that respect, because if I had donated them, they'd have been destroyed in Hurricane Katrina. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

I want to get started asap. I have been on SCD since last 6 months, i was fine for almost 3-4 months and then bleeding started again. I have the same symptoms you do and am on the fence about the hydrocortisone foam. Jordin Rubin does similarly. As I recall, she tried SCD and it didn't work for her. I tried one thing she recommended, which was L-gluatimine, which she said helped her amazingly. It had the opposite effecton me, my body didn't take to it at all, it had a negative effect, and that was the last I used her site.
