Guest guest
Thanks so much Donna, I have had IBS for four weeks now. I take an otc medicine but whenever I stop, it comes back. Do you have any suggestions? I thought it was due to my diabetes medication. My blood sugar is so low in the evenings, (75) that I have to eat some fruit to get it back up. I am thinking that I should stop one of four glucophage which may be making this happen. Losing weight has its downside. I am still pre-op by about 8 pounds. thanks again. Guest guest
Lilka, I think you should talk to your PCP and your surgeon on what you should do. Also keep a journal to see when the IBS hits, what foods you ate, if it was after medicine, then what medicine was it and give all information to your doctors. If you figure out a pattern you can make changes, like for me no fruit or vegetables yet, I'm hoping when I try again at 7 months it goes better. Things do seem to get easier with time after WLS. Guest guest
Hi, Lilka - One of the side effects of Metformin (glucophage) can be diarrhea, so you may be right about it being your medication. However, don't change it without calling your doctor! You might try taking a look at what you're eating for dinner, also - a diabetes counselor or nutritionist might be able to help you figure out a better pattern for your meals that wouldn't send you so low in the evening.
