Guest guest
So, I was doing sooo good for the past 5 months on SCD after knocking out a bad 6 month straight flare with steroids. Unfortunatly I had to go back on them this time. I think my flare is due to me getting a cold and eating alot of home made applesauce (very sweet). Last time I got sick I had a mini flare during my cold. Now, worse cold... worse flare to the point I had to go back on some meds I was previously off of! Booo... So, with that background info... here's my question. After being on SCD for years and being med free, do you sometimes get fares? Maybe when you get sick? Eat the wrong food? -UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 7 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 5 pills a day Your E-mail and More On-the-Go. Get Windows Live Hotmail Free. Sign up now. Guest guest
You recover a lot faster and what used to be two weeks is now a couple of days (hopefully) if you can get some yogurt and chicken soup going--which I just got at the store. Not feeling too great the last couple of days and it's going to a hard freeze so I'd probably like drinking the warm yogurt as soon as it comes out of the maker! Debbie 40 cd PS Yes I also got a refill for Pentasa today so it varies on how good you are with strictness and stress, colds, whatever...maybe no reason. I say it came for no reason and went for no reason even when I didn't change a thing and in spite of the doctors switching up the medicine, etc. etc. and one thing that always helps is the homemade yogurt/chicken soup combo. If I can stay remotely legal then I seem to do ok.
Guest guest
Hi , I'm so sorry to hear about your flare.....That really stinks Thankfully, my dd has only had what I would term " mini flares " since getting off meds 2.5 years ago. When she starts feeling crummy, she just lays in bed with a heating pad and we go right back to intro and she basically just eats chicken soup for a few days. This has happened three times or so, and we've always been able to knock it out. I have learned the hard way to always keep chicken soup in the freezer! I think many people w IBD find that a cold can trigger a flare, so perhaps bring your diet down a stage or two when you feel yourself coming down w a cold? (I know the applesauce was Stage 1, but maybe w. other things stashed in the freezer you would have had more options of other things to eat and not eaten so much of it?). One mini flare for my dd was def. caused by food. In the Spring (after 3 years SCD and 2 med-free) we started adding in organic brown rice to her diet a few times a week, and in small amounts. 2 weeks later, she was flat on the sofa and feeling crummy . No more rice for the forseeable future! Hang in there, Ellen 12 y/o dd scd for 3.5 years for Crohn's med-free for 2.5 years and doing great > > > So, I was doing sooo good for the past 5 months on SCD after knocking out a bad 6 month straight flare with steroids. Guest guest
Yes. Well, it's happened to me anyway. After doing 3 or 4 years of strict SCD I had a massive flare that sent me to the ER and put me back on prednisone after being off it for the longest time yet. Heh...so I completely understand the frustration you're feeling! Then I had another big one 5 months later. I'm not entirely sure what caused it and neither is my doc (except that the first one might have been a side effect of an intussusception healing itself but there's no way to be sure). I don't eat anything illegal and they came on SUPER suddenly. I was perfectly fine the day before the last one and then I woke up and had to rush to the bathroom upwards of 30 times that day and saw an increasing amount of blood every time. I wish I could pinpoint what was going on since it doesn't seem diet or illness related and I'm scared it's going to happen again. I hope you feel better soon and are able to get back off the meds!
