Guest guest
I LOVE the DCCC cheesecake and I make it according to the BTVC book recipe (w/lemon rind). Any other variations that people do w/this? The only fruits I'm eating are pineapple, applesauce and a little bit of banana. Guest guest
I put sliced pinapple on top of mine... unless you tried that already. I've also made it with pumpkin butter (home made in the crock pot) if you can find pumpkins. I don't think butternut squash would be as good. Guest guest
I found a lot of unsweetened frozen fruit at Wal-Mart like mixed berry, raspberry and mango. I'm going to try that on top. You didn't mention thickening it but I use tahini, just 1T. in it to thicken it if it's runny. I think that happens when I use frozen DCCC. Guest guest
A kosher supermarket will DEF. carry it. If you're near the Jewish area of LA (Pico-on, I think? Sorry, haven't been to LA in a while) that would be a good place to try. Good luck! Guest guest
I'm in Woodland Hills and I get the Friendship Dairies' DCCC (both salted and unsalted) from Henry's. It's $3.99 for the 7.5oz package. Is this a reasonable price? I've seen the same thing for $4.99 at Gelsons in Westlake Village. I haven't seen it at the Whole Foods in this area, and last time I went they weren't carrying any DCCC at all. I did ask Henry's about ordering in bulk. They took my phone number but never got back to me. I should try again. - > > I put sliced pinapple on top of mine... unless you tried that already. > > I've also made it with pumpkin butter (home made in the crock pot) if you can find pumpkins. For some reason, there seems to be seasonal shifts in pricing - not sure why since it'sa cheese. But so it is. Guest guest
I paid 6.99, but I don't know how big the package was. It's the only place round here you can get it. Marilyn, how much are your packages at the Fresh Market in NOLA (we finally got one in BR). Guest guest
I want to know too! I am also in Columbus. Marla- I bet you are the one that buys whole foods out when I go and the shelf is empty I figured there were other SCDers competing for the same 6 or 7 packages they put out at a time (I usually buy them all if I can!) Guest guest
I live in Pennsylvania. My brother's girlfriend works for a local food distributor. She gets me a case of Friendship Farmer's cheese at a time. They are the bigger of the 2 sizes and I'm not sure how many come in a case. With her employee discount, it cost me $44. I store the whole box in the freezer. It beats running to the Wegman's which is about 45 minutes away. I don't know if her place of employment would sell to me if I just called them up but perhaps if there is a similar place in your area, you could give it a try. Holly O.
