Guest guest
About a week and a half ago a friend stopped by our house and AFTER Zipporrah was playing with her kids (as well as several other of my children) she informed me her kids were just getting over foot, hand, and mouth disease. NOW our whole family has it too!!! I am frustrated that a friend would expose my kids when they KNOW about my kids' propensity toward strokes with viruses. All 9 of my kids as well as my hubby and I have the characteristic soar throats and blisters on the tongue and throat. Zipporrah also has the blisters on her feet, legs, arms, hands, and basically all over. Being a baby, she got it the worst and for this one time I am actually happy she has the G-tube rather than having to orally eat for total sustenance. I know her throat must be very soar the way it looks. I have been totally run down, having a migraine, soar throat, and was wondering why until we saw the ped and she told us what we were dealing with. I know others have had this and would appreciate any helpful hints dealing with it. I have been told it is pretty quick and usually not too bad, but with Mito it is such an unknown. Guest guest
Hi Darla: Well I'm back from our summer place and have ALOT of emails to read through. Anyway, yes it is quick. Lasts about 3 days; but the blisters may last up to a week longer. Leah had a mild case of it. but she didn't want to drink much. I think it was more due to the fever than the sore throat because the next day she started eating again. The good news for kids is our ped always recommended popsicles, ice cream, and cold drinks. Jello works well, too. In order for your kids to have gotten it, your friends kids must have still had a fever. Because according to our nurse you aren't contagious when you have the blisters. Just the fever. Even if it was a very low grade fever, they were still contagious. And I agree with you that wasn't smart thinking on her part. I have a good friend who will tell me when they have a cold and not to bring Leah over to play or they can't take care of Leah because they are concerned she will get the colds they have. I always thank her for her thoughtfulness. Bedrest and cool drinks is all I can offer. But Leah handled it well. But then again, each child with mito handles illnesses differently and I would be concerned with yours. How is it going?
