Thank GOD is coming home.....I'm getting scared to death because I expect to use Mt. Sinai because it's on my plan and I can't do this if I don't go through my plan....has ANYBODY had a good experience with the staff there? I appreciate that the surgeon needs to be a good one and that I would only be in the hospital...GOD willing....for 3 or 4 days....would I be taking my life in my hands to go to Mt. Sinai..?

I am so thrilled that is going home. She has been in my thoughts

from before her switch. Now she can hopefully relax and enjoy the road ahead

of her. Let it be a lot less bumpy than it has been.

Please give her my love and tell her that when I am home from my surgery

(Tuesday with Dr. Gagner) I will call her.

Thanks Steve....I will do just that...this should, unfortunately, be quite a stack of complaints...I hope that they listen...Funny how Mt. Sinai forgets this is just like any other business...you treat the customer poorly and word of mouth will surely get you less business...Surgeons who will and are capable of doing lap DS are few and far apart, but it should not be a reason that the hospital and the doctors and nurses don't respond to a patient's needs properly....I hate to say it but if you got a complaint about Mt. Sinai....let me know...I'm gonna come armed to get what I need and I hope it helps others....Nobody should go through what and so many of you have and I don't wish to be one more casualty.

Cindy,

Perhaps if you copied the negative

messages and sent them to the Hospital Administrator of Mt. Sinai well

in advance of your planned procedure and asked for positive assurances

that your treatment would be much improved over what was described by

other list members . . . ?

Cindy,

While I

have no personal experience with Mt. Sinai, I do with hospitals, and

particularly the incredibly sad excuse for one that my poor dear, sweet, and as

kindhearted as can be mother-in-law.

One thing that has proved to be helpful for us (as a family) in making

certain that Hazel (my mil) gets good care, is to make sure that one of us is

with her around the clock. We take

shifts, bring a good book, or cross-stitch, or something of the sort with us,

and prepare to be her advocate on any turn. At first the hospital staff was simply *aghast* that we would think we could stay

there around the clock – they had posted visiting hours, didn’t they!? Then, we pointed out the fact that she

was receiving substandard care – we could either have one of our family members

with her there around the clock, or, we could file suit. Which did they prefer? Apparently, they prefer for us not to

file suit, because they’ve never said another word. We regularly use this tactic, and the bribery one in order

to secure nearly normal – although no where near excellent care for her. Sad but true story.

Thank you for your kind words and thank goodness your MIL had you all to be there for her. Unfortuantly, I do not have the family to do this...As I am in NJ and I hope to be having the surgery in NYC...I won't have much assistance except for my dh...anyway, it just seems terrible that any hospital staff should feel free to be cruel to a patient....I may not to much to help, but the hospital administration WILL know who I am by the time I get there....I hate how much people are mistreated when we all have come to such a hard decision to begin with....Wish me luck. LOL

Great news - actually the best I've heard in a while. Now she needs

to get lots of rest and in time she'll be a new person.

Best wishes on a speedy recovery, !!!!!!!!

Cindy,

Wishing

you more than luck. I’ll be

praying that your experience is a very positive one, indeed!

Good plan

of attack, btw – let them know you’re coming and what you expect, and who you

plan to report to as to how they’ve done in the end (the list, etc.)

You know,

each year there’s a big thing that hospitals go through to get rated in the top

100 hospitals in the nation. I

know ours goes to great pains to be in the top 10 every year – I don’t know if

that’s an important thing to the hospital that you’ll be going to, but maybe it

would be worthwhile to find out if they participate in that, and if so, if they

strive to be in the top 100. Maybe

that committee who decides who the top 100 are need a copy of your

correspondence, too!!! Hmmmmm…. Could

get very interesting!

Blessings

to you,

dina
