I was wondering about memory lose and Sarc. Yesterday i went to get gas for my

car which

i have been driving for 4 years now and i couldnt remember where the latch was

that u

pull to open the gas tank. It took me about 15 minutes of searching the car

before i found

it under the drivers front seat. Also after i did finilly find it I put my gas

card into the gas

pump and it asked for my zip code which i couldnt remember and had to stop and

think

about it befor I finally remembered that. I am worried because i cant believe

that I so totaly

forgot my zip code which has been the same for 9 years and i have been driving

the same

car for the past 4 years. I was wondering if others have had simular problems or

if this is

something i should be concerned about. MATT in Seattle

Well, Matt, I don't know how concerned you should be, but I do know that many of us have stuff like that happen. I actually had to paint a little arrow on my gas gauge pointing to which side the gas tank's on. I've also had a few occasions when I would go to use an ATM & just be blank--couldn't figure out how to put the card in, etc., even with the little picture showing how! Most other times I don't have any trouble with it. For a couple of years it seemed like those things were happening more frequently, but in the last few months it's actually gotten better. Sarc? Meds? Depression? No one can tell me. You might want to keep a diary of these events--even just a note on a calendar. Then you have something specific to show your doctor.

Hey Matt:

For whatever it's worth, I have had the same problem for years, off

and on. The most recent bout with sarc started with the memory

problems again, that's when my brilliant gp decided I am totally nutz

and need to have my head shrunken, (something I absolutely refuse to

do, just think of all the hats that would no longer fit!). When I saw

my neuro he just laughed at my other

idio............er.........uh........doctor, and asked me if I was

having trouble sleeping at all. After my loving wife's long,

emberrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssing, did I mention

lonnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggg, description of my snoring and waking up

during the night, he suggested sleep apnea might well be the culprit,

I go in for testing on the 17th of April. (Yes this means I have to

sleep in a fake hotel room in the doc's office, with electrodes much

akin to those worn by young frankenstien attached all over my body,

and try to ignore the staff watching me as I do so), and then if that

turns out to be the problem I get to sleep with a hose attached to my

head for the rest of my life, but if my mind returns it will all be

worth the trouble. So, who knows, maybe this is the kind of thing to

look at, only time will tell, good luck, hope you get to feeling better.

Hey guys hope you don't mind me joining in the conversation here.. I've had the sleep apnea test not once but twice.. and let me tell ya, I am so thankful.. it not only takes a huge overload of work off your heart, but its the best sleep you've ever had.. yes it does take some getting use to but I promise, its well worth the effort and yes my memory isn't as bas as it once was.. People get enlarged hearts and sometimes die early in life due to the effects of sleep apnea.. once you get use to it.. you'll not leave home without it.. that's for sure..

Hang in there..

Matt,

When my NS was first kicking in, this was a big big problem. I went as far as to call AAA because I'd locked myself out of my car outside the grocery store.

The kicker was that in order to call AAA-- I had to reach in thru the open window of the car, get my purse and cell phone, and make the call-then I put the purse back into the car thru the open window--and sat on the trunk of my car--

Until I realized that I'd done all of the above- and I called AAA back and cancelled the call (got help from a friend...) LOL!

The following week, I walked the local mall-- and ended up at the wrong end-- and had to have security find my car, and then come back and get me--- and take me to my car-- as I was too wiped out to walk the mall distance again.

It is a progression of the disease- and many times it can be from lack of sleep, high blood sugars, or side effects of our medication.

For me, it was more that the frontal lobe of my brain- the area that controls executive functions-- is being messed with by vasculitis. I don't show plaques or granulomas on the brain-- but the Neuropsych testing showed the cognitive problems.

Take care,

Mac,

Mine seems to come and go. Right now it is pretty good cause I am on

prednisone but when I am not I can be dangerous. I have been cooking,

the phone rang, I answered the phone, sat on the sofa and talked until I

heard the food popping on the stove. I have also forgotten which dial

in the shower is hot and which one is cold. I used to really fixate on

it when I happened, but now I jsut try to laugh about it and keep going.

As long as I did not burn me, the house of the pets, I am thankful for

another, albeit weird day.

Take care.

Hi group, I have had memory problems and wanted to let you know that sacoids does cause memory loss. For a while I could not remember where my bathroom was or places I had been or seen before many times or just remember what happened previous days before. It has gotten better. Occassionally I still forget things, just can't seems to remember everything all the time. Also, for me prednisone is like a miracle at times. I have to get on and off it due to flare ups with eyes and other symptoms of sacoids. Usually the prednisone helps me the first day that I take it so the turn around time is fast with prednisone. I just went to the eye docotr a couple of months ago and started taking prednisone and pred fort drops for my eye and the first day or so I could tell a difference. It is like a miracle for me even though it does have some bad side effects. I just thought I would give my experience. Hope it helps. Shauna in Atl

Hi Matt, Don't feel bad. Something similar happened to me . I have had my car for about 4 yrs usually going to this one gas station where they pump it for you. The little greek guy knows me pretty well and knows I always get $20 /regular. One day I pulled my car up on the wrong side of the pumps completely forgetting where the gas (now look at me now I can't even remember the name of the gas thingy!) went in. He looked at me really strangelike and said "you are on the wrong side, ma'am". I felt so stupid and embarrassed. Now I go to another station across town a lot! I forget my words a lot. I will be in the middle of a conversation and completely forget a word that I want to say. That's embarrassing too. I guess we all do it. Debbie T. Co=Moderatorbelltown_mac

Hi Matt, Debbie, My name is Barb, I cannot remember names of people or things. Everybody in my family and my friends help me talk. lol I forget other thing also, like where that gas thingy is on the car. All of the food at our house is called"stuff" because I cannot remember tha names of the recipe. We have Corn stuff, Bean stuff,Orange stuff, etc. The worse thing for me is that I am forgetting how to spell and when it is bad I have so much trouble that at one time I could not spell my name. That is scary. I think it all goes along with the neurosarc. Barb Debbie wrote: Hi Matt, Don't feel bad. Something similar happened to me . Hey

Matt,

Yes I have

the same problems and they drive me crazy, I keep telling everyone I’m

really a blonde and just dye my hair dark to confuse them! I forget

things I have known forever in fact! I find for me it is far worse at

night when I am tired, I laugh and tell everyone oh those little tumors must

have taken that over too, (no one understands granulomas,so I just say a small

tumor)

Try not

to let it make you totally crazy or we will begin to think we are crazy and we

are NOT! We are very intelligent people with mini invaders taking over

our body very slowly, OK faster in some of us! When I finally remember I just

keep repeating to myself, not that it makes it any easier to remember next

time, but that it makes me feel better, that maybe I will remember it next

time!! Love ya, Matt, Marla

OK call

me crazy but I personally like the new way Walmart is showing there shoes, why,

I might miss something I can’t live without, now I stroll up and down

until I find the perfect shoe for me and my crazy mood that day! You should

see my newest shoes I just love them, I went to career conference this weekend

for Kay and wore them and let me tell you, I got so many compliments on my

shoes, some even told me I looked “hot”, these are almost all

women. I had fun “in my new red high heels”.

And of

course while in Denver,

I found the perfect purse to match the shoes! Not that is a good day. Love

You are not stupid. You are not crazy. I have been told all of those

things and none are true and you need to remember that. I wish I could

think of some big, flowery prose to help you feel better but the only

thing I can say is what is true; you have an illness and they are the

ones that are in the wrong. You can not help it.

I will keep you in my thoughts.

I have had memory loss like that. It make me feel bad that I can remember what I was going to say and then it is completely gone. I used to do it really bad but it has gotten better. I am still off remembering days and times that things happen. My memory was really bad could remeber where my bathroom was, things I had driven pass for many years but never forgot my people once i had seen them again. I don't worry about it as much but I used to when I was going on interviews and couldn't remember everything. Don't feel bad. Keep hanging in there. Shauna

Well, Pomy, there is that old saying, "takes one to know one." Bunch of birdbrains. Are you ever tempted to ask a doctor, "Did you graduate in the top or bottom 50% of your class?"

Moish have you ever been tested by a neuropsychologist. They are not like "psychologist" that people use for emotional issues. They are strictly used to test & help determine what is happening to people who have suffered brain/head injury, or in our case people who may be experiencing symptoms from something like neurosarc. I had the testing done and it showed the extent of my memory problems, weakness in my right hand (that I didn't know I was experiencing), etc. It may be able to help you with your case with social security, it documents the limitations.
