Guest guest
Will I finely got my doc to order methotrexate. He ordered 7.5mg per week. What has those who have taken it experienced? Is it hard on the stomach. Saw my hematologist today. I have been going for weekly Procrit and IV iron. Since having the 23 surgeries on my knees due to post Op MRSA, I was on Vancomycin and other IV Antibiotics. My bone marrow is damaged from all the meds they used to treat my infection. Sometimes I was on 7 ahtibiotics at a time. Seems like the MRSA is now controlled. I am off the IV meds but am on PO Keflex for 1 year. I have had sarcoid since 1971. I have been having terrible pain for the last six weeks. Hardly have a minute with out terrible bone pain all over my body. Vicodin ES does little to relieve it. I am on 20mg of prednisone for many years. They would really like me to be off it or at atleast try to lower the dose. I am feeling very down with all this. My husband ot 43 years suddenly began sobbing last week. He is very concerend that I will be may be doieing soon. I have been having problems with taken care of wiping my because of the spine pain and stiffness. He's been a real trooper/ He had such a terrible look on his face and just blurted out thatWiping my butt was not his favorite thing to do but he knew that in the future he knew he would give anything to still be wiping me. They are also telling us that I have very mild kidney failure. Friends I really need some support right now. Judy in burg
Guest guest
Judy, I have taken Methotrexate in the past I found it did cause nausea when I first started taking it but that it soon subsided, make sure you take the tablets after you've eaten something, and for the first couple of weeks you may really feel bad, just rest.. Listen to your body! There is "NO" doubt you've been through the wringer.. I take procrit injections myself, I give them via shot every week, but I've never had the Iron Infusions, that's gotta be rough..especially on your stomach as well, I know I can't take Iron tablets as it causes me to have chest pain, not a good feeling. As for pain control, they need to put you on something stronger, if you can tolerate it.. there are so many other things stronger than Vicodan ES that they can try.. Several of our members are on Duragesic Patchs, which are strong but hey sounds like if anyone is a canidate for them you are. Please mention to your doctor that you need something stronger for pain so you can at least be comfortable. Your husband sounds like a wonderful man, he truly took you for better or worse and well, this might be ther worse but at least he didn't run when you got sick or better yet when you got sicker. I wish I could say or do more for you, all I can do is say that I'm standing or sitting right here beside you and if you ever need a friend to talk to, I'll be glad to listen. My email addy is topdat@... feel free to use it any time.. Hugs, -- Methotrexate Will I finely got my doc to order methotrexate. Guest guest
Judy, Going on Methotrexate enabled me to get off the prednisone, so maybe this will happen for you, I started out low dose then went up to 15 mgs/week. I had no stomach problems some do, but did have some lower GI problems, but they got better with time too. I am now down to 12.5mgs/week, I am also on Plaqunil. I hope you do get some relief. I’ve been having bad bone pain too, but I don’t do cold very well and it’s cold here, I was part of that blizzard that shut down the state of Colarodo for days, I try to stay in and warm! Know you are in my prayers. Guest guest
Thank you all for the wonderful response to my questions. I could feel the support and love doming with each of your messages. Well I just took the Methotrexate. He gave me a 90 day supply, I will talk to him about the injections at my next visit. Well I am not an arts and crafts person, I signed up for a Heart shaped wreath class for this evening. They will be giving us various herbs and stuff to decorate it.. I have been putting aside money to take things like this or go on some of their trips they sponsor at the senior center. This should be good for me to get out of the house.. My husband will have cataract surgery on Jan 12th and the 19th. I need cataract surgery, but when the surgeon looked at my current medical conditions they decided maybe I could be helped with stronger glasses. Gosh everyone, I sure feel better because of all your support.
Guest guest
Judy, I was on Methotrexate starting at 10mg and it helped me tremendously. It did give me a little nausea but after awhile my body got used to it and it didn't bother me as much. I have had terrible pain in the past too and the Vicodin hasn't touched it. MY doctor put me on a Duragesic Fentanyl Patch. It is a time released patch you wear for 3 days then change again for another 3 days. IT works a lot better. I think you should discuss this with your doctor. Chronic illness is an awful thing to go through with a family. My husband wants so bad to be able to help me but doesn't know how and he can't . You sound like you have a wonderful husband so cherish him and lean on his support.Hugs,Debbie T.Co-ModeratorJudy wrote: Will I finely got my doc to order methotrexate.
