, I do not blame you for doubting the scd but I am so glad you have seen first hand the difference. So many people expect to have instant success but they forget that it might have taken them 30 or more years of eating poorly to become sick, it will not go away in 4 weeks. My son was an elite athlete an his coach always said that it took twice as long to get fit again after you stopped training, so if he took 6 weeks off it would take 12 week to get back to the same level, so really it could take many many years before you become healthy again, thank goodness it is faster than that but you get my meaning!

Don't give up hope, stick with it and I hope you feel better.

By the way, enjoy xmas but cut out the sugar and you will already be on the way!

So those of you who pay attention to names may have noticed that I have not posted any questions in a few weeks. Well, about three weeks ago, after six weeks on the diet, I went off of SCD. I had lost close to 20 pounds and still had diarrhea so I became convinced that the diet was not working. BOY WAS I WRONG! While I did initially have more energy and gained back about 10 pounds on a traditional diet, the diarrhea has double or tripled in frequency and urgency. I have begun to have cramping and some blood which I never had before and I am back to my old sleeping patterns of taking hours to fall asleep then waking up with bad night sweats. The short time I was on SCD my diarrhea was only two or three times a day, there was no cramping or blood, it never woke me up and I slept like a rock for the first time in my life. Needless to say I will be going back on SCD. I figure at this point I might as well enjoy the holiday meals with the family and starting after christmas will go back on SCD. I think the biggest problem for me was that one sentence in the BTVS book where she says that if you have not noticed improvement after four weeks it is up to you to continue. Well, I tend to take things literally and was using diarrhea as my only gauge of success and once I passed the four week mark I sort of gave up hope. Now I feel as if I have a whole new set of things to gauge success on and this time I am not going to keep track of how long i've been on the diet. I will just be on it. I am completely prepared for the " I told you so's "

I appreciate your honesty and your experience. I am in my 6th week and most of the time still have diarrhea but only once a day, compared to 5-20 times a day. Sometimes I do wonder that if this were really working wouldn't I have solid BM's??? But I guess that's wrong thinking and I just keep needing to give it lots of time. Like they say, it took 20 years of a messed up stomach, what makes me think I'd be healed in a month??

Maybe your experience will encourage others NOT to give up! I would hate to go back to having to be near a bathroom all day...I'm hoping I just continue healing! Enjoy your Christmas food (I am a tad jealous ) then we'll see you in a few days!

I could have told you so...<kidding> but only because I have done the same thing several times.

It takes some of us longer to get rid of the worst of the symptoms (d and B).  The night sweats and nightmares went away first and it was so nice but I didn't connect it to the diet.  I felt better pretty fast but that was 2005 and I'm a chronic *backslider*.  I still have trouble in that area.

I'm not sure if it's anything like our lifelong diet that got us here, could be genetic?  Nobody else in my family seems to have anything like this and we used to eat the same.

I like the intro on pecanbread.com but sometimes it's better to do the one in BTVC because it's very easy and straightforward--not so many options when you feel bad.

Hope you feel better.  January will be here soon enough, I know the food is great but you might want to make some yogurt until you redo the intro.

Hey ,

Hope you feel better. Enjoy Christmas. Please be careful- don't give those bad

bugs too much of a Christmas treat.

I used to have night sweats. My doctor said they were panic attacks. I'm glad you're better with the diet. Now, you have proof that it works! What were you diagnosed with, if I may ask?

I was diagnosed with Crohn's-colitis a year ago after 10 years of symptoms. I do

believe I have a relatively mild case compared to some, but no amount of Crohn's

is fun. Also, I am making some yogurt today to get a little bit of a head start

and will not go crazy over the holidays. Please.... no one be jealous of me. I

am jealous of you that are already 6 weeks ahead of me now. Sometimes, however,

in science it is just as useful to disprove something as it is to prove another.

I am actually encouraged by my experience and look forward to getting started

again to see what happens. Also, as a side note, I have an appointment with a

new doctor tomorrow who is rumored to be supportive of LDN. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. I'm one who is not jealous of you as I remember holiday feasts where I'd fall asleep for hours soon after eating a large non-scd meal and miss most of the day when I would like to have stayed awake to visit with relatives. Then, I have issues for days afterwards.

Yes, I do believe you should stock up on the yogurt! At my last get-together (at Thanksgiving after I went on scd), I brought a jar of pickles along that I found at Whole Foods that contain active cultures.

Take care of yourself!

Welcome back. We're all here to learn.

I too have Crohn's colitis. I switched to Lialda and Rowasa, and that has helped

me a good deal. I'm in my 5th week SCD. I am improving, but slowly. I don't have

trophies and I am getting increasingly convinced that its the way to go. After

initial weight loss for the first few weeks, I have put on a couple of pounds

over the last couple of weeks.

Take it slow -- only one day at a time... eat the same 'boring' thing as much as

you can.

, congratulations on recognizing that the diet was

helping. Enjoy Christmas, just not too much, and I'm sure you will

be raring to go back to SCD. I'll bet you will get back where you

were quicker this time.
