Hi all, it's been a very long time since I wrote in, but I have some

questions that I was hoping to get some guidance on. My mom, ,

has been diagnosed with Neurosarcoidosis since August of 2005. She's

been in hospice for congestive heart failure for almost 10 months.

Long story short, she's been having a lot of breast pain on the right

side. We went to the GYN just to see if it might be a cyst or

something that could be easily addressed as her pain literally stops

her in her tracks. It doesn't last long, but it is very sharp. It's

been going on for about 3 weeks. You would think that with all of

the pain medicine that she is on that she wouldn't have any pain, but

unfortunately she still has a lot. My question is whether or not

anyone in the group has experienced this kind of pain in the breast.

Her hospice nurse said that it " could " be nerve pain from the

Neurosarc, but that's just a guess. She's scheduled for an

ultrasound on April 3rd.

I was just wondering if she is alone in this particular symptom. I

would really appreciate any information you can provide. All the

best,

, I'm so glad to hear from you. I hope you were able to get your job situation straightened out.

Did the GYN express any opinions on the possible cause? I'm assuming that he/she did a breast exam. Did the exam elicit the same pain? There could be many causes. I forget your mom's age. Is she past menopause? Obviously, you want to eliminate cysts or tumors. An ultrasound is good, but she may also need a mammogram. I hope she's getting the ultrasound at a women's health center, because they will know which tests are appropriate for her. There are special tests that are sometimes needed. So if the ultrasound comes back "normal," I would press for more screening.

Some women have "mastalgia," which just means pain in the breasts. This is more common just before periods, during menopause & with high caffiene use. I had this during menopause, but both breasts were very painful. After a thorough exam, mammogram & ultrasound, my Women's Health nurse-practitioner recommended I take Vit E. It worked wonders. After a few months, I ran out & just didn't buy some more. Within a couple of weeks the pain was back, so I got right back on the Vit E. After about 3 years, it resolved & I haven't had any problems for probably 6 yrs. But she needs to have other causes ruled out first.

Good luck, and God bless you for being such a loving advocate for your mom.

,

One of the problems with sarc is that it gets into the lymphs, and then you can have some serious pain from the swelling. Also, it is not at all uncommon to have high prolactemia levels with sarcoidosis.

This would cause the "leaky" breasts-- and would also be extremely painful.

I have intermittent problems with this, and end up with the feeling that my breasts are on fire-- and the nipples get really raw. It's not as bad now that I'm menopausal, but it was nasty (and also a huge part of why I wasn't able to conceive) when I was younger.
