Guest guest
Hello all-- Just wanted to drop in and say hello to you all. My computer died, and I got a new one, so I am back. But I will be away again for awhile. I am going on a cruise. Our High School music kids are going on a cruise April 1 - 8th to Progresso Yucatan, and Cozemel Mexico, so I am going with them. They will be performing at the Shriners Hospital in Galvaston Texas on the way down. Then they will be singing on the cruise ship as well. I am so excited, and so nervous. My daughter is a Junior, and she thinks its great that I am going. I on the other hand, think I must have lost my flippin mind to be riding all the way down to Galvaston Texas on a charter bus with high school kids....... Shesh. I never ever dreamt that I would ever have a chance to go on a cruise ship. I have many hestitations, but I am gonna go anyways. You only live once, and you may as well enjoy what ya got.......... I am a bit nervous about the heat. I do not do well in heat. Heat makes me crazy...... Hope the music teacher is ready for a crazy momma.... hahahaha......... YIKES!!!!!!!!! I still really think this is a dream...... Someone pinch me and wake me up...... Has anyone been on a cruise before?? Any suggestions for me??? I went to the Mayo Clinic at the beginning of March, and my Dr said that it was fine that I go. So I guess I have his blessing.... So why is my ulcer kicking my a** right now..... OMW........ Must be my nerves....... Well I am sorry that I have been away for a while, and I am sorry that I am leaving again for a while. But I will be back.... Take care of you all........ from Iowa..... Guest guest
, I think it's wonderful that you are taking this trip! For the heat, go to Walmart & get a couple of those little portable fans & some extra AA batteries. Don't get the fans with the water attachments--they are more trouble than they are worth. The fans here are usually about $1.00. They come with batteries, but those don't last long. I would also buy a couple of "Aqua Bands," in the sporting goods department at Walmart. I think they are about $4. These are the headband-like things that you soak in water & then they stay cool for hours, even a day or more. I put one around my neck, & as a headband if I'm really hot. When then get warm, just turn them over. You also might want to take a small electric fan & extension cord, in case the hotel rooms aren't cool enough. Another thing that I've taken on trips, especially if I'm flying, are those instant ice packs that you can crush & they become cold. They are just for one-time use, but might be handy in an emergency. They are lightweight & don't take up much room. As for the cruise, I went on my one & only cruise about 12 yrs. ago. The hospital was sponsoring it, so we got a nice rate. Several of the nurses & secretaries I worked with went. I had never really had an interest in a cruise, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I spent most of my time on the top deck reading, or napping, just enjoying the nice breeze. There were always shady places to use. I spent a little time at the pool, but not really that much. The cruise I took had a small casino. I walked through just to see it, but I'm not really a gambler & the noise & flashing lights bothered me. This was before I had any sarc symptoms, but in looking back I wonder about it, because none of my friends had any problems with it. Anyway, I did enjoy the shows every night, they had a good magician & comic. The nice thing was that there were a lot of activities to choose from, but you could also just rest in your cabin. Some of my friends got seasick (although they all drank alcohol), but I didn't have any problem with that. You might want to take some Dramamine if it's safe for you, or even better, ask your doctor to order a Relief Band. It works like a TENS stimulator, so no drugs involved. You wear it like a wristwatch & adjust it as needed. It works great for pregnancy nausea, post-op nausea & is said to work for motion sickness. I don't know if your insurance would cover it & I don't know what they cost, but I'd look into it. The nice thing is that you could let others use it if you didn't need it. My bed was right under the window (I forget what they call windows on ships!), and I loved to lie there & just look at the water. I also went on deck at night & watched the water. Obviously, in that location & with the water reflecting, sunburn or sun poisoning is a risk. I would just stay out of the sun as much as possible & wear that sunscreen! Remember that a white or light teeshirt is useless. Lots of people worry about gaining weight because of all the food on a cruise. I only gained a couple of pounds. I'm kind of freaky because I get almost as much pleasure seeing & smelling good food as eating it! I ate what I liked, but just really watched the serving size. I also had the benefit then of being healthy & walking up & down many flights of stairs. If I went now, I'd had to use the elevator and a scooter. Yes, scooter! If you don't have one, check on a rental, maybe the cruise ship even rents them. You should be able to take one on the bus, and you'll have plenty of strong young kids to put it together for you! I rented one last year for a month, then found a place I could rent by the day or week, which was cheaper. Good luck, , and have a great time! We had off-ship activities; I only went on two of them. One was a bus tour of Key West, which was interesting. The other was snorkeling, which was okay except my mask didn't fit tightly. If you or your daughter might go snorkeling, get a disposable waterproof camera. The cheap ones work fine. You can get the pictures developed on a disc at Walmart for about $3 & upload them onto your computer. I was going to send you a couple of pictures from my cruise when I remembered that they aren't on the computer or a disc. I'll have to scan them in & I haven't gotten my scanner hooked up since I brought Sparky home from the computer hospital. I took tons of pictures & also a video. Guest guest
Hi , Take the chance now! You never know when you will the get the chance again to go on a cruise.... That's great even though its with all those kids!!!!! I know what its like I have 3 sons of my own. I know what you mean about the heat. I get the same way. You will just have to let maybe one or two of the other chaperones that you know or that are close with of your health issues with the heat. Take to take it easy and take things at your own pace. Stick to the shade as much as you can. Make sure all of your meds are closeby wherever you are. Your stomach must be your nerves right now. You must have meds for that too. Try to relax and I wish you all the good times that you can have! Have a great time! Hugs, Debbie T. Co-Moderatordas97 wrote: Hello all-- Just wanted to drop in and say hello to you all. Guest guest
, don’t know about the bus ride down, I would hope for sure they have air, as for the cruise it seems like when the ship is moving the wind will keep you cool, and everywhere inside is air cond. Sometimes it got to cold for me and I would have to go out and warm up a bit. You have a blast and be so glad you went! And with your daughter, a double blessings, stop worrying about it, I will be praying for you, so all will go well, no worries, Be happy!! :J Marla Bramer " Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible " From: Neurosarcoidosis [mailto:Neurosarcoidosis ] On Behalf Of das97 Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2007 1:24 AM To: Neurosarcoidosis Subject: Cruise Hello all-- Just wanted to drop in and say hello to you all.
