Guest guest
Hi, Pam- Colleen was a volunteer for the show, " Extreme Makeover-Home Edition " this summer--it airs on ABC and stars Ty Pennington, among others. They built a new house for the Tom family in Fairfield. That family was just so deserving, as the mom is raising six (I think!) disabled daughters, and one normally-abled one and they are all turning into great people! Colleen ended up getting heatstroke that day, even! The episode aired Sunday night. I'm proud of Colleen for her " Extreme Makeover " with WLS, too! Guest guest
Hey Shonda ! Thanks for watching, i cried a little bit here and there, i do in all of those shows when i watch them! I felt pretty lucky to have helped in that show and to help the family and to come out of the dark and into the light so to speak, I did catch myself a few times in a blur here and there.......... Guest guest
Colleen, I looked at your picture on here before I watched the show and I saw you. That was so great for you to come out of the dark and into the light. That's great! This was also great for me I actually got to meet Mom, the daughter that didn't have disability and one of the daughters that didn't have legs. I took a Special Needs Class at Los Medanos College and the Tom's were invited to our class, it was wonderful and the mother is a great lady, so this meant a lot to me. Guest guest
Donna- Thats so cool you got to meet the some of the Tom's. There was a really good documentary on them a few years back i just happened to catch on hbo one day, i missed the begining but caught most of it. Thanks for watching. One of the cool things at the time as Shonda mentioned in her post was that I was able to wear a size medium tee shirt, and it was so amazing to me at the time..............it was a milestone........... One of my newest milestones is that when my husband hugged me the other day, he goes wow, i could almost wrap my arms around you twice...........whereas before pre surgery he could not get them all the way around me................But this is not news to you, you have your own milestones and accomplishments..............I am so hoping that Pam E has these joys in the months to come, I know she was nervous but I think she is going to be happier than she imagined ! thanks ColleenDonna Jordon wrote: Colleen, I looked at your picture on here before I watched the show and I saw you. Guest guest
Thanks Shondra...now I remember. I live in Fairfield about 2 minutes from where they were doing the makeover. I did not know she was spotted on there. We have our very own celebrity. Colleen is quite beautiful and I am so proud of her for her progress and I am sure she will go farther than she would ever imagine. Colleen, my schedule has not allowed me to go to the meetings because I get up to Fairfield so late and I have to get the boys so I do not get home to close to 7:00. I am hoping that I will be able to get back to the meetings really soon. Until, hang in there and congrats! Guest guest
I used to work with a woman who lost a great deal of weight - over 100 lbs. - and she was one of the rare ones who did it without surgery. Took her years to adjust; for the longest time she wore " baggy old- lady " clothes. I expect if I have trouble, I'll hear enough comments from my teenagers that it will bring me back to reality, but I also expect that even if I'm wearing the right size it will take a long time before my head adjusts enough to realize it's really me wearing them. . . Guest guest
Probably so. But what a great challenge to have. Guest guest
Colleen You're so right about milestones and accomplishments, I hope each and every person has them, it helps us keep on track and has self esteem, all people in life need these. I am proud of your accomplishments, keep up the good work. I'm sure Pam E. will have milestones and accomplishments also that will make her so happy. Life sometimes gets really stressful and we tend to forget all that we have accomplished, that's why getting on here and reaching out make us remember how far we've come and how we can be there for others. You keep up the good work. Have a good day. Donna Colleen Garner wrote: Donna- Thats so cool you got to meet the some of the Tom's.
