Helpful food websiteI found this website, Barry Farm Foods:http://www.barryfarm.com/our_store.htmand they seem to have lots of products that are helpfulto SCDers, including pure dried vegetables in packages, in case anyone needs to carry some dehydrated stuffwith them on a trip and doesn't have a dehydrator and/orthe time to prepare all that. http://www.barryfarm.com/veggies.htmthey also have this thing called dough enhancer forceliacs which I'm intrigued about, which contains:8 oz. bag Ingredients: Soy lecithin, ginger, ascorbic acidso it looks to be legal. I wonder if it works in nut orcoconut breads. And lots of nut butters for peoplewho have a hard time finding a variety locally:http://www.barryfarm.com/nutbutters.htmAnyway, I just found this, so I haven't yet ascertainedthat the dehydrated veggies and stuff are legal, butit looks like a good bet, as it is made and packaged on theirfarm and is not a big producer. Anyway, it is an intriguing new possible option. Mara

Mara,

I would exercise EXTREME CAUTION with these foods.

I was hunting for dried, powdered tomatoes that could be used to make

fast tomato sauce. I found a company which professed to have just what I

was looking for. I explained my limitations (no starch, no sugar, no

maltodextrin, no natural or artificial flavors), and was assured, by

e-mail, that their product contained nothing but dried tomatoes.

Something didn't seem right, so I continued to poke around their

web-site. And found what had bothered me: " dried tomato in a food

grade matrix.... " I wrote back, and said, " What is this 'food

grade matrix'? " And back came the answer: " Oh, that's just a

little maltodextrin... that won't hurt anything! " Even though I had

specified in my original e-mail that I could not have maltodextrin, they

were prepared to omit its presence in their product in order to make a

sale. And technically, it wasn't an ingredient. It was a processing

aid.
