Guest guest
Hi all, I recently met with an audiologist who recommended an FM system for Asher's auditory neuropathy (due to mito). I don't know much about FM systems and am researching it at this point. I'm not sure I want to do this at this point b/c I don't want Asher to have one more thing that others can see that point out his problems. I just want him to feel that he is "normal" and not so different than his peers (he already has a g-tube!). His hearing difficulties only occur whe there's background noise (like in the classroom) but he's only 3 1/2 so I don't worry about him "missing" too much class content. Anybody else go through this decision? Anne R
Guest guest
FM Systems are a great help, especially in the classroom. There are many sites on the internet that can help you find one but it might be beneficial for you to discuss this with the school as they should be required to purchase one for your child. 's Sound makes a great one as does Phonak. Let me know if I can be any more help on this issue. I know it's hard to be " different " but education is so important and not being able to hear is so disabling. Kids today are much more aware of special needs kids and I'm proud to say they seem to handle it better than adults sometimes.
