Dear Jo Ann;

I am in the first stages of researching the switch. I am reading as much as

I can get my hands on. Your note caught my attention as I also have United

Healthcare. Can you give me some more details re: the " network " . I live

near Sacramento but am planning to go to SF for the surgery if my insurance

will pay. I already have the go ahead from my ENT (huge advocate) and my

family doc (my preferred provider). She said she would refer me to Dr.

Rabkin in SF. I am waiting to hear if I get an consultation. What is the

next step? Any advice? How long did it take you from this stage. I am in

a hurry! I don't/can't chicken out. I want to have a real life again

instead of a small black hole of an existence. Any insights or info would

be appreciated. Thanks. - Melodie

melodie,

i live in ocean springs mississippi and i have united

healthcare select plus pos!! i've been on this

journey for a couple of years basically. the past ins

cos i had wouldn't pay anything (i had BCBS of

tennessee & CIGNA) - the surgery was a definite

exclusion. i went to the internet to the obesity help

site and i had hits from a couple of wls offices - one

was in oxford ms - i gave her my ins info and she

confirmed that the the surgery was not excluded but

that the doctor was not in the network so everything

would be covered @ 70%. i wasn't going to go to

oxford since i knew dr booth was in ocean springs. my

next step was to make an appt - now i'm waiting for

ins approval in writing - i'm as anxious as you and

also in a hurry!! i want a date!! i wish you well &

stay in touch!!

Melodie,

I am post op. I had surgery with Dr. Anthone (USC) on April 18th. I live

in Carmichael, about a hair away from Sacramento. It sounds like you are

pretty close too. Isn't Colusa near Woodland? Maybe we could get together for

lunch some time. Keep in touch!

Kim - I live about 1 hour north of Sac on the Sac river in a town called

Colusa. Between I-5 and #99.

Are you contemplating the switch or are you post op? - Melodie
