I was just giving examples of how information comes about most of the time -- mainly through the grapevine. I was using my personal experience as an example of how surgeons may be quoted but it is not because they have spoken to anyone but the patient and/or patient's relatives about their case. I really don't think that surgeons regularly and blatently dishonor patient confidentiality. In Dr. Ren's case, I have no idea what was discussed in that one conversation. I wasn't there. But, I do know that the publicity due to postings about Deb's surgery has necessitated responses by her to inquiring patients. I do not think she would be so naive as to violate patient confidentiality when there is an investigation occuring.
