Guest guest
I have just begun the process for WLS. I was told that BCBS will not pay for Behavior Modification Fees. Has anyone else been told this ... or possibly received approval from BCBS for this fee? Anita BMI 42 Michigan

Does that refer to the Psychological Evaluation? I had TWO psych eval's because I had it done first in Seattle but my Portland, Oregon surgeon rejected the report and made me go to her own psychologist in Portland, Oregon. The second evaluation was far more thorough and BC/BS paid for both evaluations. Further, I expect them to pay their portion of my surgery in a little more than a week. My BC/BS [Federal Employees] actually shows Bariatric Surgery as a covered benefit under 'Surgery'. They no longer require pre-approval, they've followed suit with Medicare and will pay as long as it was medically necessary. I realize this is different than many other folks' Blue Cross experience but if you're Federal Employee, or work for one of several large employers, you should be OK. For those that aren't in one of the above, a group of us are gearing up to present a terrific fight. Our singular goal is to rock this insurance giant to its core and get them to acknowledge that the investigational period of the DS ended years ago. Hope this is helpful. gobo Surg. Guest guest
Hi Anita, If you're talking about the $4,500 fee that the two Detroit area doctors charge, this is not usually covered by insurance. I decided to drive the extra hour and a half to see Dr. Hess, who does not charge a fee like this.
