Guest guest
I saw my urologist today and he was concerned about the recurrent UTI's. I'm going to have a cystoscopy of my bladder done in the office in 2 wks. He wants me to have another C & S done first. After the scope he is going to start me on prophalactic antibiotic for 4 months and see if that will ward off further infections. Has anyone had a cystoscope awake? All I know about is my dad having them under anesthesia when he had stones. It was a really good appt. and he offered me the position as his nurse. I was really flattered, but had to turn him down as I'm unable to travel and work full time. He is only in my town one day a week and needs a nurse to travel with him to other clinics during the week. I'm really dissapointed because it's something I would love to do and to be offered a position without even having my degree yet was really neat. Guest guest
--Hey , I didn't know you were in Nursing school! Way to go!!!! Any thoughts about what kind of nursing you'd like to do? Are you sure you want to have it done in the office? I'd be afraid of any complications. I had a sigmoidoscopy done in a doctor's office and I got really dizzy. I turned out fine but with you're history... Is it a doctor's office in a hospital or a free standing clinic? What would the wait time be to have it done in endoscopy in the hospital? Would he ahve everything there to give you extra fluids if you had an autonomic flare up? Guest guest
I had a cystoscopy done 3 years ago while i was awake, with no anasthetic, and i cannot reccomend against it enough... it depends i guess... catheters in general are excruciating for me, but apparently they aren't for most people (someone suggested at one point i may have a wierd shaped urethra which could make it more painful?)? I was told it would feel the same as a catheter, however at that point i had never had one, so i didnt realise that it would hurt me. If you've had a catheter in the past, you can expect it to feel about the same... For myself however in the future i wont be allowing any doctor to put any sort of catheter in me without either a spinal or general anasthetic. Did your uro offer you any type of anasthetic? would he consider a spinal if you insisted? I dont THINK its supposed to hurt the way it did me, so i wouldn't get too stressed out, however its my understanding that alot of cystoscopies are done with a spinal... I hope you get some answers! Guest guest
Heidi- It's in doc's medical building. It's on the same street as the hospital but not in the same area. He didn't seem concerned about doing it in the office at all. He said it would just take a minute. I don't know anything about it so I just said ok. The prob. runs into that I'm leaving for Cleveland Clinic on the 5th of Oct. and will be gone at least 2 wks. With my urologist just being in town on Tues. that really only left the Tues. I'm scheduled for or wait another month or so which I don't think would be the best idea either. I would LOVE to be a pediatrician, but am just working towards ped's nursing for now. Setting realistic goals and then moving forward.
Guest guest
, I went through a period a couple years ago when I had nine kidney infections in 15 months. No structural cause was ever found, and after three months of continuous oral antibiotics (Cipro), the infections stopped. I've only had once since then, which was caught early. I've had several cystoscopies. Generally, they are uncomfortable, althought not painful enough to require anesthesia or sedation. It is a very quick procedure, and I didn't require anything more than my usual painkillers afterwards. If you're concerned, perhaps you can pre-medicate with whatever painkillers (OTC or otherwise) that work for you. I hope your docs find the source of the problem, and treat it quickly and definitively. Theresa > I saw my urologist today and he was concerned about the recurrent UTI's.
