Guest guest
OK, so I am admittedly a nut addict, wether it be peanut butter, almond butter, cashews or whatever. I know I go overboard on them. After my first infusions of Remicade, I could eat whatever and not notice a difference. Well, it seems that is not the case anymore. I find that if I eat illegals I will get symptoms back, which may sound odd, but I'm actually glad because before that wasn't the case so I didn't know if the diet was working. I did fall of the wagon over Christmas and have recommitted myself. I'm pretty active so I get hungry a lot, and many times I reach for nuts or nut butters, and I'm sure I over do it. I know that if you're in the beginning stages, you're not even supposed to have nuts, but I don't feel so terrible that I feel I need to go to stage one, plus I think I'd be starving and wouldn't be able to work out. I have noticed if I eat too many nuts, I either get more frequent BMs or I come down with a low grade fever or chills. At least, I think it's from the nuts, but I'm not sure. I have read that nuts are one of the reason the diet fails for a lot of people. I'm assuming it's nuts, but I've also heard that cheese can be an issue. I eat a substantial amount of cheese. Sorry this is long, I'll cut the the point with my questions- • Has anyone else experienced low grade fevers/chills after eating nuts for cheese? If so, did you have to completely eliminate them from your diet? • If you did, were you able to eventually add them back in? I probably need to get more creative with my food choices, but if I eliminate nuts and cheese, nothing sounds good. And I know it sounds weird, but I don't feel that satiated by meat or other fats. Anyone have any tips? Thanks for listening, Amber

Other than the pecan butter, my favorite foods are TJ's canned salmon with homemade italian dressing, chicken breast cut up and sauteed in garlic, butter, and lemon juice (you can add zuke or green beans for veggies if you want) and banana pancakes (although mine are usually scrambled pancakes since I get impatient waiting for them to cook). Hopefully one of these sounds good to you! Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Chinese Herbs (not legal but helping!) Guest guest
Amber, I have eaten quite a bit of nuts and cheese on the SCD, but other than the first five days (when I wasn’t actually eating nuts and cheese J) I haven’t had any fever or chills. I too, have had concern about the quantity of nuts and cheese I have been eating so I upped my quantity of yogurt from 1 cup a day to 1 ½ to 3 cups a day … usually not three cups … but on occasion … so the yogurt can be one of my snacks. I also usually put a bit of fruit in my yogurt. I am also able to eat raw veggies so I have started ordering a veggie tray from our organic grocery store once a week, I order it without dip and the veggies are always fresh and pre-cut. I just keep it in the fridge and munch on that in the afternoons instead of nuts sometimes. (sometimes the veggies give me a bit of gas J but nothing else and I don’t ever have as much as pre-SCD) I am eating more peanut butter than I ever have in my life, but it only seems to be doing good things for me. I like a dab of peanut butter in a pitted date, and will also eat a dab of peanut butter on a banana or sliced apple. I do try to limit my “nut bread” to once or twice a week, one time I had four muffins and ended up C. But other than that, supplementing my nuts and cheese with raw veggies and fruit works well. That being said my brain/gut issues have always surpassed my digestive issues so I am one can handle raw food pretty well. Guest guest
Hi Alyssa, Thanks for the suggestions. Your foods do sound good. Do you have a recipe for your homemade italian dressing. I've been using olive oil and red wine vinegar and am getting very bored with it. Thanks! Guest guest
I can't answer on cheese. But I use almond butter a lot. I was able to use it nearly at the beginning, probably because it was OK before SCD and I was used to it. Eating sliced almonds is dicier than the butter. Since I don't have eggs, I really haven't tried much with the almond flour. But even with just almond butter I can't just eat an unlimited amount. Guest guest
Do you have a recipe for your homemade italian dressing. I've been using olive oil and red wine vinegar and am getting very bored with it.I usually do about 1 part olive oil, 1 part ACV and a few squirts of lemon juice. I then mince a few cloves of garlic, usually about 3 cloves to every cup of dressing I'm making, and mush it in with some salt with the back of a spoon. Sometimes I'll shake in some oregano too, and maybe some basil, to give it an italian-ish flavor.
