Recently, I was thinking that it has been a few years (3 maybe) since

my last prostate examination. Being an African American male the

medical community consider me high risk for prostate cancer. If I was

a female my risk would be reduced dramatically. But the sex change and

hormonal therapy it way too much for me to even consider the change.

So I was wondering, how often does caucasian females have their

prostates examined? You never hear of white females contracting

prostate cancer. How come? Duh?

Anyway, I noticed there is a new vaccine for the Human Papilloma

Virus. I am considering getting the vaccination. But before I do, I

wanted to check with some of you to get your feedback first. Although

there is no record of an African American male contracting this illness

but I just want to be sure. Better safe than sorry. Duh!

Ron, it's good to see you posting. I can't tell if you're messing with us or what. The prostate gland helps make semen so...women don't have one. But hey...women have to have yearly pap smears and mammograms which are worse...in my opinion. lol I'm not too sure about taking a vaccine you don't need. Sarc people tend to have some strange reactions to some of vaccines out there. I guess you'll have to do some online research on that one. I know it's hard to keep up with all these exams. They sure are a pain in the ass! LOL pun intended....lol. take care S." J. Blanchett" wrote: Recently, I was thinking that it has been a few years (3 maybe) since my last prostate examination. , the popular opinion amoung health care providers is that EVERYONE, even happily-married couples, should always use condoms. The belief is that you never know when your partner will cheat on you, and there have been cases of wives being infected by HIV & other STDs by a cheating spouse. And, of course, husbands also.

I personally would not use condoms & be immunized if I had no reason not to trust my partner. I know that there remains some risk, but for me, learning that my husband cheated on me would be a much bigger issue than dealing with any possible infection, including HIV. So it's a very personal issue.

The difference in pushing the HPV vaccine for young girls is that young girls & women are at higher risk of developing cervical dysplasia (the forerunner to cancer) and cancer itself, because of structural differences in the female organs. In getting a health history, we ask our clients how old they were at the first intercourse & how many sexual partners they have had. Some think that we are being nosy, but we explain that the younger they are at first intercourse & the more partners they have, the higher the risk for abnormal Paps & cervical cancer. We want them to understand the importance of getting regular checkups & follow-up for abnormal Paps. It's amazing how most of them, even the young teens, really take this information in--it's something most people don't know. I have a grand-daughter , who is almost 13. She is not yet sexually active & doesn't plan to be for a long time because she has seen all the trouble her sister has been in. But I would still encourage her to have the vaccine, because many unplanned things can happen, with or without her consent.

I myself won't get it, unless Mr. Downright Perfect shows up, passes all the vinegar inspection & cultures. Then I'd probably have both of us get the shots! Otherwise, the only vaccine I'll get is the shingles vaccine.

That's my story & I'm stickin' to it!

Rose, I sure am glad I've been married nearly 29 years(next month...) and my husband has never given me any reason to believe he's ever cheated on me. The world is surely a different place where the common thought is to now have sex by the third date...?! I had no idea how ghastly STD's could be. Yeah, I can imagine that would be embassassing. I agree that you should have documented medical proof nowadays that your 'partner' is 'safe' to have sex with. The way a lot of girls act nowadays the first time they even mention boys ...in that way...they should get the shot. wow, thanks for the info... hugs S.Rose wrote: , the popular opinion amoung health care providers is that EVERYONE, even happily-married couples, should always use condoms.
