Red sand in nappy?

Yesterday when changing my 2 year old grand daughter's nappy she started to cry and said it was sore. I then noticed that her nappy had what looked like 'grains of sand' on it. They were coloured red.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks,

.

Yes the nappy was just wet and not dirty. I took her into the Dr yesterday after a second nappy containing the same 'red dots' appeared. Not as many as the day before but the same thing.

The Dr has told us to catch a sample of urine to check for infection. She does not have a temp. He said it could also be due to something she ate. The Doctor also mentioned crystals due to possible dehydration. Except she wasn't dehydrated. She was running around full of life and is having plenty of wet nappies.

It's not the first time this has happened. When Kaytie was a few months old the same thing happened and was put down to dehydration.

Re: Red sand in nappy?

was it dirty or just wet? If it was just wet, I would probably say take her to the doc, as it can be an indication of a few different issues with the urinary tract... If she was dehydrated, taht can cause uric acid crystals which can be orange in color to form in her diaper due to concentrated urine, but there would be other signs to go along with dehydration... sorry im not much help!> Yesterday when changing my 2 year old grand daughter's nappy she started to cry and said it was sore. Thanks Twana,

I shall take the nappy in if it happens again. Thanks it's a good suggestion.

Re: Red sand in nappy?

,The only thing I have ever heard of for this is kidney/gall stoneswhich are passed out with urine. I'm all for taking the dirty diaperin to the doctor and asking. (Yes I have done this before for unknownthings.) It is not the doctor's favorite thing but at least you bothwill be looking at the same thing.Twana> I then noticed that her nappy had what looked like 'grains of sand'on it.
