Guest guest
Hello: I am new to this group thing as well as this gastric bypass thing. I am currently in the SSF program with 1 class and an appointment with the surgeon to go. I am hearing from the staff that late december, early january are part of my timeline but we know nothing really. I was a pound and a half away from my " goal " last week so I should have it nailed by now. I have been overweight since 6 mo old. I was on the OTC fast at 23 and got to 180lbs. I put it all back over the next two years. I have been unsuccessful ever since. I am 42 now and really feel this is my last chance to get my weight under control. Enough about me, now for my questions: Will my psoriasis be a hinderance to surgury? What is a realistic recovery time? Are the changes I hear about (hunger and energy) real? I only have a million other questions, but these are a good start. Thanks
Guest guest
HI and Welcome I cant answer your first question, but I will try the other two. I had open surgery and was out of work for 4 weeks. I had some discomfort still when I went back but otherwise I did ok. What have you heard about hunger and energy? If you can be more specific, I can give it a shot. Guest guest
, I'm pre-op (even pre-orientation!) still, so I can't answer directly about whether psoriasis will be a hindrance to the surgery. However, I can tell you that there's at least a chance that the psoriasis will be improved as your co-morbidities improve with the weight loss. I have a very good friend with psoriasis. Along with it she developed a really debilitating case of psoriatic arthritis - extremely painful, disabling, and exhausting; bad enough that she had to go on disability from work. One day she mentioned something about snoring, and I suggested that she talk to her PCP about getting tested for sleep apnea. Thank God she did - because according to her respiratory therapist she had the worst case he'd ever personally seen. Three nights on a CPAP to assist her breathing, though, and her arthritic flare-ups were reduced to a level where she could return to work. Not cured, but a whole lot better! I don't know what health problems you're having other than psoriasis, but if they include diabetes or sleep apnea then you might see an improvement in the psoriasis as the other conditions improve with weight loss. Good luck! Keep us posted on what you find out - Cathy C. > > Hello: > I am new to this group thing as well as this gastric bypass thing. > I am currently in the SSF program with 1 class and an appointment > with the surgeon to go.
